Reputation: | Don't know if you guys shop at Safeway, Vons, Pavilions, or Genuardis, but they all offer online grocery ordering. It's definitely a good way to save money, especially if with the high gas prices these days. They have exclusive online-only specials and you would still get the same club savings that you would get at the grocery store. if u normally shop at the stores check out the appropriate website. just add the .com after the stores name |

Reputation: | I looked into doing this a while back when places like PeaPod were in my area and when one of the higher end stores offered on-line shopping. I like the idea of it, but there were some things that bothered me. The first was produce. I'm picky about my produce and I'm bad about converting the amount I want into the pounds. So I thought it would be difficult to get exactly what I wanted and get fruit without bruises and such. Secondly, I wasn't thrilled that while the services I looked into took coupons (although didn't double or triple coupons), they gave you a credit on your next order rather than taking the money off that specific order. If I used the service all the time, that might work. But I still would rather have the amount off my order at the time. |

Reputation: | A few years ago, Publix (the supermarket that swallowed Florida), tried the internet shopping method. For some reason it didn't work too well. My theory is that there seems to be 3 sizes to their stores down here...which allows them to build a store every few miles it seems. That way they don't 'eat' the business of the other. I predict that they will begin to offer the service if gas does get more expensive. Also, as the Florida population ages with Baby-Boomers...they will be more internet-saavy and might use the service more. And if the shipping is FREE...what do you have to lose? |
