Default Help With My Laundry!!!

I just bought an amazingly beautiful cashmere and wool coat at the thrift store this morning, it was $2.25 and fits like a glove...... but it has a couple of grubby marks on the front. The washing instructions have been cut off. Ive never worn cashmere before, and Im thinking it may need drycleaning..... but Id rather not spend the money if I can help it. Does anyone know how I could clean it?? Thanking you in advance.

Cashmere generally tends to say "dry clean only". I haven't washed my cashmere items yet, but plan to try using Soak wash on them before storing them for summer.

You want to spot clean the grubby marks first. You could try a stain remover like a Tide stain remover pen and see what it does. A small amount of woolite soap on a rag might help get the stain out, then use a clean wet rag to remove some of the soap.

As for washing it, you can wash wool by hand and hang or block flat to dry. The inside of a typical wool coat will have a stiff canvas type fabric in the collar to keep it stiff. You do run the risk of that getting soft if the starch is removed. But commercial dry cleaning washes clothing, just in chemicals instead of water. There are also home dry cleaning kits.

I bought Dryel at home dry clean package which include spot remover, dry clean tissue and dry clean bag, for $10.00. It's pretty easy and cheaper than going to a professional dry cleaner. You basically treat the dirty spot with the spot remover and put the tissue inside the bag along with the sweater and zip up the bag and put the bag inside your laundry dryer. The way to really stretch your dollar is to cut the dry clean tissue into 4 pieces(which I really don't notice the difference).

Take it to a dry cleaner, do not risk it!

Definitely go to the dry cleaners, with a deal like that think of it as insurance to keep it looking so good
