Reputation: | There was a weird quiz. There were no options for "i don't buy ice cream, because that's a treat I don't need." And for the car one, I didn't negotiate because I get my cars at cost as long as I buy Ford. |

Reputation: | I got an 86 and had similar issues to Kaitlyn142. There were a couple of questions that didn't have the answer I would give to the question if it were not multiple choice. So, I selected the one that was closest in spirit to my actual answer. If 0 is maxing out credit cards at full price stores every month and 100 is dumpster diving/freecycling/freeloading all purchases, I figure 86 is about right for me. |

Reputation: | I only had one question that I thought was tough to answer. I got a 79 and I think that is pretty accurate. There were many questions that made me think about whether I should take a second look. I haven't compared my auto insurance with other carriers in a while and that question prompted me to put that on my list. I didn't quite understand the restaurant question, but I don't use coupons for restaurants. I think the grocery question on coupons also made me think. I used to use coupons but then I found it was just too much effort for the return. But I probably should get the Sunday paper. Like I said, worthwhile quiz. Good articles at the end that they pointed me to and its nice to get a pat on the back for being a bit cheap. |

Reputation: | Thanks to the Wisebread readers for all the feedback. Well over 500 people took the quiz and questions were modified based on your feedback and those of some of the quiz takers. An interesting comment that we hear a lot is that there are a number of areas that people had forgotten about that they want to go and spend some time cutting costs in those areas. That was part of the logic of the quiz. Thanks again.

Reputation: | I think some of the cheapskate options aren't really that cheap. Driving around more than 10 minutes to save a dollar on gas isn't really worth it. The cost of gas is around a dollar every ten minutes or so. Clipping coupons only works out if you can double them, and then also buy only things you'd normally buy anyway. Rarely are the products with coupons cheaper than store brands. You make gains, mainly, on quality. There are also some major "tricks" missing. One is learning to cook from scratch, and avoiding processed foods. Another is to learn some basic repair skills, to fix cars, motors, appliances, furniture, computers, etc. Another is to buy things used. Another is to invest in energy-savings. |
