Default How do you speed up your pc?

I wrote a post about it here http://frugaltech.blogspot.com/2008/...p-your-pc.html

Recently remember a really good one, removed unused fonts. I went through a slow machine with over 500 fonts (Yeah, I couldn't believe it either) and it definitely improved boot up speed by nearly a minute!

Maybe my answer isn't the most frugal, but I usually upgrade my computer to speed it up. Faster hard drive, more memory, faster cpu. Defragging, uninstalling apps, etc. helps you use the hardware you already have more efficiently, but at some point the hardware itself is the slow performance link.

I religiously disable startup items using the msconfig run command on my PC.

For my Mac I uninstalled unused languages. I think I also read somewhere that having lots of things on your desktop slows down the startup, so I try to keep my desktop neat and tidy as much as possible.

My technician told me to do a disc cleanup once a week.
My IT teacher told me to remove all your documents from the desktop and place it in your My Docs or drive c:/ or d:/ or what other drive/slave you have. It will help the startup of your pc.
And yes, remove your startup items using msconfig run command.
Clean your pc. remove the files that you don't need.
Regularly scan your pc or viruses, because viruses/spywares are pest that slows your pc down.
Detect and repair disc errors.

I hope it will help you. Cheers!
