Reputation: | I was surprised how many of my friends haven't heard about these! I guess to each their own, but I think they're great. Does anyone else here use these gas cards that give a free 5% or 10% rebate on your gas? I've had one since I want to say last June or July and I LOVE it! When I'm at the pump I actually recalculate the price in my head... $4.00 a gallon? No, that's $3.60 for me I just assumed everyone knew about them. Then I was reading reviews online to find a credit card for my daughter (she's 19 - to have at school) and they had a big writeup about the the gas discount cards and what ones they thought were the best on their homepage http://www.creditcardforum.com What I really like is you can use it at any station. So I use it at the cheapest station I know of AND I get the rebate. I know it's no fix to these ridiculous prices but anything to help for free ya know? I just make sure to pay the balance every month. That way there's no finance charges. Plus there's no annual fee so that makes it free for me to use the card. It's like free money |

But they have about a two month window they are good for and you can combine them to use as many as you want together. So say I go to the store 5 times for food items over 2 weeks and I get 5 gas discount coupons that is .25 off each gallon of gas. I had a bunch saved up and got .50 cents off each gallon once. |

| Senior Member | Our Shaws did that (and may be again so the rumor goes) and we enjoyed them as well. Especially as they calculated the savings on pre-coupon prices. When you save 50%+ I was spending half as much or less and saving just as much as other people.

Reputation: | Discover (regular card, not the "open road" card) has 5% back on gas from July to Sept, so I'll end up purchasing all of our household gas needs for the next few months. Other card do 5-6% back on gas, but are often introductory rebates (like 3-6 months). There's also usually an upper limit to how much you can get back in rebates (usually around $300 IME), but that's probably not so bad. Even at today's gas prices, I think I'd be hard pressed to max out my gas CC rebate ($300 / 0.05% = $6000!). |
