Respekt. That's pretty awesome.

Getting quality old stuff for free makes the thing you receive that much more special/enjoyable. Last year a friend gave me their old TV since they were upgrading to the 1080p(or whatever it is). The TV is just awesome and the DVD quality is pretty high. Only downside is it's over 170 pounds

And with the money you saved on the TV, you can buy some new friends to help you move it!

It's digital-ville for all TVs, soon, isn't it? Some of those old dinosaurs will make nice end tables...

If you have cable or satellite, the old analog TVs will still work. If you have an analog TV with an antenna for reception they won't work unless you get a converter box. That is what I will have to do. After the rebate coupon, I think I may be out about $60 for the converter. I haven't looked at it real close though; it is still a ways off (next February).

We are averaging about 3-4 days without buying something "new" but those new things are usually food, gas or prescriptions. As far as buying new consumer goods probably three weeks to a month. It usually ends up being replacement clothes for someone. We just don't have viable used clothing options. So much of our area is working poor who only dump really worn out clothes that they got from Walmart at the thrift stores here. We do occasionally find some decent quality/brand used clothing that isn't damaged at some of the consignment stores but that is hit or miss.

Good to know about the cable- I have this big old TV that works perfectly fine - hate to have to replace it.

Default Interesting Question.....

Since I have been at my current job, I have been blessed to be making more than I did last year. However I have come to realize saving is much more better than spending now (Go figure that!) and have adopted to "use what I got until its done" motto. An avid impulse buyer in the past, I am strongly learning to tame my ways. I reuse more of my stuff, like my purses or shoes and/or donate the stuff I dont use anymore or resell them to the recycled clothes store for store credit. Also I just planted fruit trees, to cut down the expense of buying fruit in the grocery stores. I also shop at the discount stores more often, which I used to think was a Blah! experience but now I look forward to what I may find.
But to answer your question, I just bought something on Monday online. However it was some clearance winter stuff, I will be using this coming season.....

Unless I get really fat I could go the rest of my life with just new food and gas
