Reputation: | I have heard iffy things about sat. internet. Some of the small dish companies are running their version of it that last time I looked required a landline for upload. So your really on dial up for upload and a sat. connection for download. The older Hughes dishes were extremely expensive but had a professional level of satellite internet used for business. The downside was it was about $100+ a month. I don't know if that is still available since Hughes merged with one of the small TV dish companies. |

Reputation: | I have been using satellite internet from Hughes.net (formerly Direcway) for over 3 years now. Speeds are comparable to the cable internet I had in the city. In the rural parts here in Alabama, satellite is the only option besides dial-up. Most cities, even the small ones, have DSL or cable internet options. The drawbacks are the latency in the signal and the cloud interference during storms. VOIP, fast gaming, and VNC are not recommended because of the receiver to satellite delay. Storm clouds and rain also block the signal so hosting a web site is not an option. The bandwidth is throttled if downloads exceed 200 mgs (for a home account) in a 24 hour period. There is a 3 hour window between 2 & 5 a.m. local time when no limits are imposed so pipe-choking system upgrades can be scheduled for those lovely hours. Installation and equipment costs have come down quite a bit since I bought mine but the monthly service fee remains at $59.99. Other plans are higher. |

Reputation: | $48 including taxes for Adelphia/Time Warner cable internet. We don't have cable tv or a landline telephone, so our internet is our main source of entertainment.

Reputation: | DSL, $19.95/month, with the phone bill. We've only had DSL since January. We were on the waiting list forever! It's less than dial up was when bundled with the phone. Of course now I'm wanting to get rid of the landline and I'm sure it would go up if I did that. |

Reputation: | I have just switched to a slower DSL connection today, 1MB/sec for 30 euros per month. Previously had 3Mb at 40 euros (some 60 US$). But feel I do not need that speed so I can save some money. |

Reputation: | $52.05 for super high-speed FIOS. We don't have a phone line, so adding one for dial-up or DSL would cost another $25/month on top of those things. We stream TV over the internet, so there's no need to pay for cable on top of it. |

Reputation: | 30 a month straight cable connection. We get basic cable package as well, but only because the cable company didn't bother to disconnect it... Which's nice for local channels, but we use dish 90 percent of time anyways so yah. I really want to go back to DSL, but fee's split with roomie, and he's convinced that the DSL connection at our location is terrible. |
