Reputation: | Got a call from my mother this morning who told me that massive Linens 'n Things Going Out of Business Sale starts today. The deals on their website aren't that good yet, but apparently everything in the stores have already been marked down. |

Reputation: | I am going today. Rumor is that one of those liquidation companies with the big yellow signs is going to do the final liquidation. Those companies are notorious for jacking prices up and then marking them down only a tiny bit. If this is Linens N Things doing the initial clearance themselves my guess is these would be better bargains than you will get once the liquidators take over. |

Reputation: | Interesting! I din't realize that liquidation companies do that, but now it makes sense. We went to a "going out of business" sale recently that was no sale at all! |

Reputation: | I went Friday. Ugh. What a waste. Most things in the store were 10% off, there were no other ongoing sales so it was like the lamest weekly sale ever. Yes, the liquidators were running it. We went in to see if they had a deal on espresso makers or not. I looked at the 10% off and made a comment about getting a better deal using the 20% off coupons you can use forever. A bunch of people standing around seemed to see this as some great epiphany. We spend most of the time trying to wade our way back out of the store, it was packed and had long lines at the checkout. It was an interesting example of social engineering. This was like the biggest crappy sale ever and people were crawling all over themselves to get in line to get HALF of the discount you get all the time with their mailer coupon. Crazy. It is the same liquidators that did the CompUSA liquidation. Things were more expensive than retail many of these places and they didn't drop the discounts down to even half off until they were down to broken gear and selling the shelves. I won't bother to go back to LNT it is going to be a waste. You will find a better deal when Macys has a sale. * The coupons are not valid now that they are in liquidation. |

Reputation: | I also went today and it was awful - everything was only 10 to 20% off. They won't take any exchanges or refunds if you have problems with the merchandise. At my location, they aren't honoring any of the usual 20% coupons!!! I'll save my gas but keep checking online to see if the deals improve over the next few months. |

| Senior Member | We dropped by Sat night as well. I'll be sticking to BBB instead. No coupons, no anything decent so long as they are liquidating and almost nothing was more than 10% off. And the stuff on clearance when they started the liquidation had the clearance price blacked out and the original price sticker put back on. I'll be writing the attorney general for NH as its illegal in this state. *rolls eyes*

There are quite a few things that states have made illegal in the ways of advertising and sales. Most states Atty Generals websites have their consumer laws listed. I ran across ours last year when I was looking up something else. We have laws against the perpetual going out of business sale. Raising a price to then put it on sale (what LNT is doing) is illegal here. Bait and switch is. There were some other ones I have seen violated in the past by major retailers. | |

Reputation: | I was disappointed as well. Since we had driven all the way there, we got a couple of things we needed for the move anyway, but the items I really wanted were still so high (I was dreaming of a mandolin for homemade potato chips - guess I'll keep dreaming) it was totally not worth my time. Bummer too, because I was really looking forward to it. |
