I love edamame (with just a dash of kosher salt and sometimes a few red pepper flakes) and kashi bars! Though, sometimes I"m too lazy to cook the edamame (i buy it frozen).

Another snack I have sometimes is just raw almonds... they're high in protein which makes them a good pick-me-up when the day starts to drag. Sometimes I will mix in some dried cranberries too. You only need about 6-10 almonds for a serving, so even though they're expensive you can really make them last.

I've made nonfat yogurt more tolerable by putting in dried cranberries as well. At a store near my place they have plain loose granola and that is sometimes a yummy addition to plain yogurt.

A less healthy thing I love is tortilla chips and salsa. However, I rationalize it by getting these delicious blue corn tortilla chips w/ sesame seeds in them and saying "well these are healthier than other kinds" hehe. Same with salsa... "it's made of tomatoes, so it's like eating veggies!"

You're actually right about the salsa. From what I've read and heard from the trainers are the gym (the ones that have actual degrees in that sort of stuff), salsa is amazingly good for you. All sorts of good vegetables and stuff. And, yeah, it does taste great.

Oowwwh I love my Salsa and chips. I make homemade salsa using the canned "petite diced" tomatoes and occasionally the packaged salsa mix since it is so quite. Everything goes into sterilized Mason jars, vacuum-sealed, and stored in the refrigerator. I get about 6 pints for each run which lasts me a few weeks. Since I drain off the excess liquid from the canned tomatoes, I also get the added treat of a low-salt tomato juice.

Some of this may have been covered already, but we shop at Sprouts (farmer market type of place for those who dont have them around, it's mostly organic). anyway they sell bulk foods (like in the barrels, you scoop yourself). We go crazy with those and a bajillion little canisters in our pantry: salted or wasabia edamame, sunflowers, peas, etc; yogurt or chocolate covered pretzles; dried fruit such as apricots, apples, cranberries, or dried cherries (which kind of taste like red licorice actually); of course trail mix, nut assortments, etc. We keep a variety in stock and grab some while on the go in our ridiculously busy day schedule.

You might have to look around for this one, but they sell them at Sprouts, I'm sure other places will too. Calbee Snack Salad - Snap Peas. They sound rather...ewww..but theyre awesome. Snap peas baked crisp and seasoned, theyre even better than chips! Big fan!

If you have time, layer granola and yogurt in a container; or mix granola into a single serving yogurt cup. We like ALOT of granola, makes it super crunchy and tasty.

I also like cliff bars. Organic energy bars. Chocolate brownie is my favorite. But there's a variety to choose from. They are usually over a dollar a piece, but theyre good for you, fill you up, and cheaper than eating out.

At the deli you can find single serving dipping sauces, or you could portion out your own with salad dressing and small tupperware. Then just keep baby carrots, brocoli florettes, etc on hand.

Peanut butter & honey on bread or toast.

Individual fruit cups (better then canned, and many are made with Splenda too).

We also use milk and bran cereal as a quick pick me up if we have a minute to dump the two togethr and scarf it down. It's good any time of the day.

Sprouts. I used to live where we had several. Great store. Like Whole Foods with out the higher pricetag. Very reasonable place with great variety and specials.

Yogurt layered with granola is delicious. If you put some fruit at the bottom it's even better! I just threw one together last week for something to eat for breakfast at work.

Making it yourself is always better because you can control everything a lot more, especially the sugar.

I love homemade hummus (just garbanzo beans, tahini, garlic, lemon juice, maybe some herbs - toss into a blender or food processor). I eat it over tortilla chips, bagel chips, pita chips, or fresh pita bread. It's thick and satisfying.

To those who want some junk in their diets: I think Chex Mix is better than Doritos, if you're craving a bit of bad but don't want to go off the deep end.

I love the cigar-sized pretzel sticks dipped in melted chocolate (pop the bowl in the microwave). Not exactly healthy, but better than having a handful of cookies.

Salsa and chips is definitely a favourite of mine too! I also like cauliflower with a little bit of dip... at $1 per head, it's cheap.

I used to have a horrible chips-and-salsa addiction, and I'll still eat an entire bag of Tostitos with Pace Picante (red label) if it's been a bad enough day. But I've gotten a lot better about restraining myself and now eat lightly salted baby carrots dipped in salsa.

All of the crunchiness and less of the costs and calories.
