If we eat out for lunch, I tend to take half home for dinner. That's my way of cutting portions when they are huge, plus I have something to eat for dinner too!

I can rarely eat the entire portion at most restaurants. I either order and take the rest with me for lunch the next day or only order an appetizer or sides instead. Some places have smaller portions for lunch, those are great.

half portions are a good way to stay on the diet, too. They give you so much at restaurants these days. Sometimes we'll just order appetizers, or split something, too.

That's one of the reasons I hate eating out, I fill full after the appetizer, and then I barely finish half my entree. Taking things home is a great way to save money though, I agree.

I was driving home from work and really wanted an iced mocha. Rather than stopping at a coffee shop, I came home and made my own. Espresso + cold milk + cold chocolate syrup + a few ice cubes = good enough for me to avoid paying $5.

One of my favorite places to go is the library... Books, magazines, movies, CDs.... all for the borrowing, costing little or nothing to rent.

Hello all new to the forum and this is my first post.

In any case something that has worked out for me is putting a timer on the water heater. Since it is just my wife and I and we both work similar schedules we put the water heater to run for about 6 hours a day. Granted if you plan on taking a shower during the day you need to plan ahead by about 20 mins. No spur of the moment mid day showers.

Savings have come out to around $20 -$30 dollars per month.

Also I strongly agree with using the library, but I'm biased because my wife works there. =)

Hope someone can try the timer on the water heater. It really helps...

Lisa - if you only let your teabag steep for about 2 minutes, you can squeeze it out and use it again. Two cups of tea from one bag!

With gas prices being as high as they are I save that little extra by shopping online instead of driving to the mall. Also, I like to use www.freeshipping.org to avoid paying for shipping costs. Double win!

I've been having $5 footlongs at Subway with water. No chips or soda. That's a reasonable deal when I'm out and about. No idea what I'll do when this promotion ends though.
