Default Macbook Water Repair

Hello all,

I'm currently a windows user but my girl recently spilled water all over her new macbook like a tard.

Apple says they can fix it for like $600.

Do you guys have any ideas where we can get it fixed for cheaper?

If it wasn't on at the time of the spill, you could try opening up the laptop and letting it air dry for at least 24 hours (or maybe use a hair dryer to assist the drying). Water doesn't usually fry electronics unless they're actually powered on. If you can dry the water, there's a chance that everything might still work.

Also DO NOT turn it on again no matter what until completely dried. Even if it was on and didn't fry you could still fry it until its dried out completely. Try asking a a local computer repair shop, or even Best Buy since they now sell Macs. And obviously teach your kid about not having food and drinks around the computer

Yikes, I feel your pain. I had a brand new iBook a few years back and the cord got tangled in the cord, panicked and flew it across the room. Needless to say, it died (the computer that is). It would've been about the same $600 to fix but my MIL's BF wanted to fix it and I never got it back. Also, I looked into other ways of getting it fixed and everything was soo expensive!

Did you get your quote at a retail Apple Store or through Apple phone support? If it's the latter, consider visiting a retail store and ask for a referral. There are Apple shops that can do the same work for less, but sometimes they're harder to find. To save time, you can make an appointment here: http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/
