Reputation: | Just wanted to ask of any of this is true about the many uses for Peroxide. Has anyone tried it? It was written by Becky Ransey of Indiana (a doctor's wife). 1) Take 1 capful (the white cap that comes with the bottle) and hold in your mouth for 10 minutes daily, then spit it out. No more canker sores, and your teeth will be whiter without expensive pastes. 2) Let your toothbrush soak in a cup of peroxide to keep them free of germs. 3) Clean your counter tops and table tops with peroxide to kill germs and leave a fresh smell. Simply put a little on your dishrag when you wipe down your counter tops, or spray it on the counters directly. 4) After rinsing off your wooden cutting board, pour peroxide on it to kill salmonella and other bacteria. 5) Fill a spray bottle with a 50/50 mixture of peroxide and water and keep it in every bathroom to disinfect without harming your septic system like bleach or other disinfectants will. 6) You can also add a cup of peroxide instead of bleach to a load of whites in your laundry to whiten them. What do you think???? |

Reputation: | I think they are true. Hydrogen Peroxide kills germs; that's why people put them on cuts and scrapes. My sister has used it to remove stains from clothing and it's used in many whitening toothpastes.

| Junior Member | I have tried it as a tooth whitener, by holding it in my mouth, and it really sets your teeth on edge after you spit it out, its also very hard to hold in the mouth that long as it sort of foams up. Its excellents on cuts and scrapes though. |

Reputation: | Speaking from personal experience, I can say that 1-5 are all true. I use it for everything you would normally use bleach for. It is healthier for you, works better, and is incredibly cheap. Pour a small amount into your bath/sink drain and it will quickly make you a believer. (That "smoke" is just bacteria being destroyed.) Poor a bit in a cup and leave the brush end of your toothbrush submerged. Then watch how well it cleans it.

| Senior Member | I've used it for #2 on a few occasions. It basically dries out open sores, inside or outside the mouth. When I was little and got a cut or scrape our mom would have us press a peroxide soaked cotton ball down onto the wound briefly. It helps kill the germs, and dries out the wound so that it scabs over much faster. It stings/tingles a little though. An interesting fact about peroxide is that it's only one molecule different from water--peroxide is H202. If you leave peroxide sitting out in the light, it will essentially turn to water, hence the reason it's always sold in dark opaque bottles. |

Reputation: | There is another use I have been testing and it actually works. Peroxide is great for getting stains out of hardwood floors! I've taken "before" pictures, and when I am done with treating the floor, I will take "after" pics to show everyone. The people who lived in our house before us let their animals pee everywhere. SO, we are in the process of pulling up the 30+ year old carpet because there are hardwoods underneath. Well, if your pet pees on the carpet, it leaves a black stain on the hardwoods. If you put the peroxide in a spray bottle and spray it on the stained areas, it eventually takes the stain out! I've treated my floor about 5 times so far and already I notice a difference. The floors are BAD...so it's probably going to take a while...but in the meantime...at least I know my floors are germ-free. :-) And yes, peroxide is great for cleaning counters (gets stains out of them, too.) It's a great "green" way to kill germs and odors. |

Reputation: | I recently tried #6 and can vouch that it works. For tough stains, fill the washer with water and what you're trying to de-stain, add in H2O2, soak overnight for hard to remove stains, then run the washer.

Reputation: | You know those "green" cleaners you can buy for kitchen, bath cleaning...instead of those nasty bleach and chemical sprays? The main ingredient is Hydrogen Peroxide. If you happen to cut yourself while cleaning, or get the urge to brush your teeth, or decide to become a "blond"...you are also "good to go". lol
