| Senior Member | lol, it really tickles me pink when I read about people thinking they are pulling a fast one on old Uncle Sam. Has history not taught you that eventually he catches on and then you must pay your dues and then some? Quote:
Dated 2001. can't imagine he's decided he wants to let it go on since then with the rise in postal rates....

Reputation: | Even if it's hard/impossible to be caught... is it even worth the time/effort? Let's say I'm looking to reuse a $0.42 stamp. If I'm earning minimum wage ($6.55), I earn that 42 cents in a little less than 4 minutes. So, if it takes you less than 4 minutes to reuse a stamp (legalities aside), it's worth the effort. |

| Senior Member | With that thinking anything that makes more than you could earn in the same amount of time is worth the effort...should we start snatching purses as well? Cause I can imagine the town I live near I could make a couple hundred in those four minutes and face similar charges if caught...the point of the discussion is the legalities not the frugalness. Its the thrill of "putting one over on the man" not saving .42 |

Now I'm not sure if this is an urban legend, but I remember reading that some stamps are marked with a UV pen. This allows them to track and catch people who do this.
