| Senior Member | I was reading through my RSS feeds and came across a list of links posted on Mostly Eating. The author mentions two recipes from different blogs that use food that might normally get thrown away:Very frugal indeed, not to mention I found a couple new blogs to read. |

Reputation: | I'm a big fan of quesadillas! You can fill them up with almost any kind of leftover.... Meats, veggies, sauces.... Add some cheese and load 'em up. I shove them under the broiler, a lot easier than trying to flip them in a pan. |

Reputation: | I make "Pot o' Food" at least once a year. I save up meats and vegetables in ziploc bags in the freezer and add any very inexpensive meats and veggies (usually from the "eat it now or it will go bad" sections). Then I make up a batch of black beans, one of brown rice and boil everything else together. I mix up the three, sometimes add some browned chicken if I don't have enough meat and have a huge pot of fairly healthy food. The result is somewhere between a loose casserole and a chunky stew. I freeze it in various size containers (from single serving to enough for about a week's worth of meals. I live alone.) and pull out a container whenever I need meals. I don't season the food before I microwave it, which helps add variety when I'm eating this a couple of times a week. Sometimes I'll add extra water/broth and make a very hearty soup, or some tomato sauce/leftover pasta sauce to make more of a tomato based stew. |

Reputation: | I like to make bread pudding, stuffing or apple bread custard from old bread. Then there's also French toast- yum! Leftover mashed veggies (potato, carrots, celeriac) also get turned into soup, or fish cakes. Most of the time there aren't really leftovers as I send them to work with DH. |

Reputation: | I end up using my mushy veggies for bisque. Anything blended with a bit of cream and sherry is amazingly tasty. I almost never have stale bread, but I so do love bread pudding. |
