Default Recycling Vinyl Records - Bowls For Your House

Here’s a great way to recycle old vinyl records and it’s a fun project to do with the kids.

1. Heat oven to 120 deg C
2. Put the record centered on an upside down oven safe bowl
3. Put in the oven and leave for up to 5 minutes
4. The record will become flexible and you can then mold it to your requirements by bending the record with oven gloves on

Ta da! A new bowl for your house. These can be used as houseplant holders because they have the drainage hole at the bottom.

Here’s some images of two bowls my 9 year old made yesterday.

Fun! I can't wait to try it with some coloured records.

I did this! I made my bowls more squarish to hold my old CDs (vertically). I guess I'm trying to be hip by saying something about the evolution of musical formats. I don't know.
It was fun, but be careful, because if you leave them in your oven too long they melt. Not in a good way.

I have a friend who does these for craft fairs. I have one that I use as my "catch-all" bowl when I come in the door. It's a great bowl and I've gotten so many comments on it!

Those are cute. I might pick up a couple from Goodwill and try these for gifts this year. My best friend's husband would love a couple.

Thanks! The records cost me 50c so it was definately a frugal project. I'm on the look out for more now

Great idea. The bowl looks really cool. I have also seen people make lamps from old records. My personal favorite though is to use them as postcards.

Thanks for the links, that site looks good. I'm looking for other projects of a similar kind.

Wouldnt it be better so sell them on ebay than destroy them? Vinyl records are rare and worth a bit. You will always find collectors and dealers willing to buy them.

Ah but this is so much fun :0) That's definately an option but I brought my two records for 50c each at the local charity shop.
