I do most of my video watching online - not having had cable since 2001, there are a lot of shows that I'm still catching up on. (One of my new favorites is Stargate SG-1 which is on Hulu.)

As for DVDs, we don't do Netflix or Blockbuster but rather save our money for buying DVDs that we're sure we'll want to watch multiple times. I only buy them on sale and usually use Amazon gift certificates that I earn through various survey sites so I haven't actually spent money out of pocket on DVDs in over a year.

Though certainly a limited selection, you can also check out DVD's from the library.

I used to check out movies from the Los Angeles library but stopped after a while because a lot of the DVDs were badly scratched with long sections unwatchable which sort of ruined the viewing experience.

Our local library charges $2.00 per movie and recently started charging tax so I'd rather save my money for new DVDs. I prefer slowing amassing a good collection of DVDs that I can watch for years rather than spending money renting.

Ahh that makes sense. Scratched up disks would quickly become a turn-off, as well as tax.
