Undoubtedtly they did some kind of research to find out how people would respond if the quantity was reduced, as opposed to how they would respond if the price went up. Walmart just did the same thing with their Ol' Roy bagged dog food. They changed the design of the bag to, I think, distract people from the fact that they had lowered the size from 22 lbs to 20 lbs.

I've noticed that Target has started selling 20-can packs of Coke products... if you don't look carefully you'll think it's the standard 24-pack.

I've also noticed frozen veggies shrinking from 16 oz to 12 oz...

It is so frustating. I'd rather get the same amount of food and pay a little bit more than be tricked into paying more for less.

This is very calculated by the companies doing it. They redesign the package as a blatant distraction from the size change. I find it dishonest. Now they are saying that food prices won't be going down even though commodity and energy costs are dropping. I feel so ripped off.

We are trying to buy more food locally and cutting down on pre-made foods we buy because they seem to be the biggest price increase & shrinkage items at the store. We recently switched to buying a hormone free milk at the food co-op after the organic milk we were buying went to around $4-5 for a half gallon.
