Reputation: | In my opinion, nobody will remember the food, the cake, the flowers, the centerpieces, party favors, what was served at the rehearsal dinner, the location of the wedding and reception (tons of free or cheap options in every city), etc. I love when people do a cupcake tree instead of a cake, because I think a bit of creativity stands out over something overpriced and typical. I like child-free weddings, since many of your invitees will bring an adult guest, and you don't want to add 2-3 kids on top of that. I'm talking like your coworkers' kids, not your sister's or anyone in the wedding party. Also, if you want to splurge, ask your parents if your wedding gift could be something you really want for the wedding itself- maybe the dress or rental fee. I still have a few quality photos hanging in the hallway, and I'm glad the dress looks so beautiful. I wouldn't pay for albums full; I like the links to the photographer where family members can buy copies of pictures they like. We skipped a honeymoon to save money. I also wouldn't go crazy with bachelor/bachelorette parties, such as flying out with groups of people to have a blowout in Vegas. I've been to some very enjoyable, co-ed barbeques that were just as enjoyable. I've known some people to become a burden (your Aunt Sophie and Uncle Jim can't come unless you pay....well I guess we'll see you some other time! Your 2nd cousins want to bring their 7 kids you never met.....don't come then!). I know some people who've turned the wedding into Carnivale with multiple wedding showers, bachelor/ette parties, rehearsal dinner, morning after brunch, etc. I think too many events seems selfish and self-centered, and I don't really want to attend 8 events leading up to one wedding, where I feel like I have to bring a gift to each date. |

Reputation: | I think the wedding dress is something I should've cut down on. It wasn't worth it!! Here are some posts I wrote about my wedding: http://baglady.dreamhosters.com/2007...odern-wedding/ This one contains our wedding budget. http://baglady.dreamhosters.com/2007...ding-worth-it/ That's the reflection after the wedding. Overall it turned out pretty well. We saved a lot on the flowers because the hubby's godmother did all the arrangements. The bridesmaids ordered their dresses from Nordstroms online and it was $70 each (not so bad). We also made some of the center pieces with origami. You can see the pic of what we made here: http://www.wisebread.com/8-fun-and-f...o-with-origami Oh, and I posted the picture of my wedding cake as a comment on Myscha's post about a green wedding. Instead of cake toppers we had flowers: http://www.wisebread.com/green-weddi...or-real-people Hope these give you some ideas!

I had a bunch of cream roses with tulle wrapped around and my bridesmaids each had a single rose with tulle. Same for corsages & the guys. I kept my bouquet as house decorations for several years, until it went missing in a move. |
