Reputation: | If the meal is only the first half of the date, then you shouldn't bag your food since you wouldn't want it to spoil. This aside, I actually would be impressed if a man bagged-up his food and/or used coupons. Not only does this show me that he knows how to save money, it also shows that he is not ashamed to be frugal. This would also speak of his honesty and being "real" rather than pretending to be a different person. |

Reputation: | Oh man... you guys are giving me just enough encouragement to stay frugal on dates. Thanks! Deanna I agree with spoilage issue. I can see that if you packed food up it might give off the "hey the date's over" signal. |

Reputation: | I can tell that at least half the girls don't like it. On first dates, you can move that number up to 75%. But I agree with people on this thread who said you should just be yourself. I'm frugal, and I'm too lazy to hide that even on a first date! |

Reputation: | So maybe this leftover/coupon thing is a test of the frugal-worthiness of the future Mrs. Chen? Are there places (perhaps not the chains but independently owned restaurants) that don't supersize (e.g. serve two chicken breasts when one is plenty) meals? Or one where you know the staff well enough to get menu adjustments without making a fuss? |

In my defense, I did insist to pay but she insisted more. Also, I drove. There was no second date. | |

Reputation: | Wow- this a real eye opener...some people find bagging leftovers 'offensive'? That is interesting and baffling. Probably one way to avoid bagging leftovers is to order something that is a reasonable portion. Personally, if my date had a huge quantity of food left on his plate and didn't take it home (the exception of something exceptionally perishable and potentially stinky like seafood) I would think him strange and wasteful. I guess it does depend on the type of date...if you have many other things planned after the meal, the food indeed may stink and/or go bad. But I certainly would never be 'offended' by someone taking leftovers.... to each their own, i suppose |
