Books, old computers should do better than clothes on ebay.

I've sold stuff for 9 years on eBay. Cars, household stuff, broken cameras and other electronics, etc. It still amazes me how one person's trash is another person's treasure. The best advice I can give you is: take the most accurate pictures of the item(s) you can and write a succinct description.

I just listed my first item on ebay yesterday.... it's a 3yr old video card used for gaming. We'll see how this goes.... I'm hoping that someone will find it to be treasure (i don't really consider it trash though)!

Go for Gymboree brand if you're looking for a quick profit on clothing. People go crazy over it--even when it's trashed. Weird, because you can buy the stuff brand new in store/online for cheaper than what it goes for on ebay. I make at least $3 per piece over what I pay for it, whether I buy it on ebay used, let my daughter wear it out, or sell it new with tags.
The hugest response/bidding wars I've gotten are over my husband's collections--comic books, Star Wars, trading cards, etc. Lots of people out there are into what I call the "geek arts." People want to one-up their friends, or have sentimental attachment to certain genres/shows/what have you.
My worst-performing listings were books and maternity clothes.

My best sale on eBay was this old book I found in the library that was all beat up. I bought it for a dollar. Turned out that it was a horse stud book from 1905 so it was over 100 years old. It sold for $92 on eBay. It was pretty weird because the cover was all ripped up too.

Other things I've sold that I thought were worthless are: Tiffany's catalogues. I used to sell the yearly blue books for $10 to $15 each. I had no idea people would pay for advertising like that. Here's an example: http://cgi.ebay.com/LOT-OF-14-TIFFAN...QQcmdZViewItem

It's pretty easy to get those catalogues for free so basically you can get free money.

ebay never ceases to amaze me in that respect. Even the strangest things sell.

I"m thinking of using another site, however. Ebay has a horrible interface and has made it hard for the buyers to be protected (you can't leave negative feedback on someone who buys your product anymore).
