Default What do u sell on ebay for extra $?

Just wondering what people's experience is with selling 'gently used' clothing or household items on ebay? Maybe its me, but I wouldn't expect there to be such a large market for that type of common stuff. What has your experience been?

I've sold "gently used" children's clothing with some success. It does better in big lots according to size, and it helps if the clothes are name brand.

Mostly I sell books, though. I'm a book-a-holic, and I always have extra books to get rid of. My books don't fetch high prices, but every little bit adds up.

We sell metal, valves and tools. Mostly the metal is scrap from dh's job as a construction worker.

I BUY toys there online, especially educational games or "sets" such as K'Nex, Playmobil, etc.

I used to sell lots of clothes, video games, software, movie etc. Not anymore though since they changed their rules. Us "small sellers" got really ticked off!

I've had good luck with brand name items: children's clothes (Gymboree, Hanna Andersson), Pampered Chef products, Creative Memories stuff. I sell my books on Half.com - owned by eBay but I seem to get better prices.

I have much better luck selling on Craigslist, especially clothes. I don't tend to sell/buy much on Ebay these days unless its a real good bargain which isn't often anymore. I don't think I'd sell anything unless its in such high demand its bound to fetch more than I paid.

I've sold a few odds-n-ends on eBay--for clothes, I've had OK luck with stuff that was brand new but just didn't suit the person. I price stuff pretty low--when I figure in my time, I'm probably not even breaking even, but it does feel good to get $5 for something that otherwise would be just given away for free. One thing to keep in mind is to figure out how you're going to package something before you list it. If you're only going to make a couple of bucks and packaging is a hassle, it might be easier to just give it away. (e.g., I recently sold a 14" wilton wedding cake pan, and it was a pain in the butt to package!)

Are you thinking about just unloading stuff you already have for spare cash, or are you thinking of starting a business? If it's the former, I'd say it costs only a few minutes of your time and a few pennies for the listing to give it a try.

If it's the later, I would say, overall, that the best market is for gently used versions of name brand stuff that is expensive to buy new and that has a reputation for durability and a certain "timelessness"--Cuisinart food processors, for example, or Osh Kosh children's clothing.

I have had good luck with things that I have no use for any more. I usually comparison list. I have listed some things that I have done great with and other things not so good. At the end of the day it matters only if it evens out and you feel like you've been profitable. So far so good. My advise is to make sure that you charge enough for shipping and handling but always be fair about it. The trip to the post office with the price of gas may or may not make it worth it. I always try and time the end of auctions for a time that is convenient for me and shipping w/ other errands.
I have also got some smoking deals as a buyer also.

Or take advantage of many shippers free pickup options or prepaid labels. I know rarely went to the post office when I sold things on Ebay. USPS click and ship labels are printable at home and you just tape them on the envelope/box. You can also order shipping materials such as boxes, envelopes and stickers for Priority mail (including the flat rate boxes) for free to have delivered in bundles right t your house. My post office keeps odd hours and I never make it there during week days but I can package, print, and ship from any mailbox thanks to the internet and Paypal. Fedex and UPS also have pickup services and I know UPS offers free packaging as well.
