Reputation: | What frugal thing have you done recently that helps OTHERS, whether it benefits yourself or not? Interesting to see what replies this gets. Example, our washer broke last weekend. It still turns on, but it doesnt spin out. It was second hand when we got it, and not energy efficient so we had been meaning to replace it anyway. So we bought our new energy star (yey!) and posted the washer on craigslist for free. Nice couple came by to get it, seemed that they felt they could fix it. So it saved them buying a washer, and it saved us having to haul it away. |

Reputation: | At a recent event, I got a free reusable grocery bag. So I started using for my grocery shopping. Reducing the number of plastic bags I get doesn't necessarily help me, but it saves some natural resources. |

Reputation: | On a similar note, there's a grocery store near here where I shop at occasionally which charges $0.05 per bag. I bring my own re-usable bag from a different grocery store. I help the environment and save a little bit of money as well!

Reputation: | 1. i did something similar. we were getting rid of an old treadmill so we posted it to freecycle and a family came to pick it up. hopefully, they'll get more use out of it then we did. 2. found out that my grandma wasn't receiving points/cash back on her credit card so i helped her call her credit card company to get her a better card 3. i've had oodles of coupons for a new grocery store in my city. i wasn't able to use them all before the expiration so i left some in the grocery cart hoping someone would find them and be able to use them.

Reputation: | I recently heard of programs specifically for recycling and/or donating your used running shoes. I've got more than a few pairs to donate. I also love giving away coupons to strangers. It's a small gesture but it makes my fellow shoppers happy (and me!) |

Reputation: | This was unintentional. I posted some vending machines I had in the garage for sale in the paper. I got a call from a charity that provides assisted living dogs to handicapped people. They bought 8 machines for $50 each and so I gave them one. They are going to use them for fundraising for their cause. It did beneifit me, raised some funds and cleared out a closet. But they as a charity will make 10X that money back this year on the machines so I was real happy to throw in a free machine. |
