Default What "frugal thing" did you do today?

I washed my clothes instead of taking them to LaundryBubbly, not only did I save money , I also saved gas

I packed my lunch to take to work so that I wouldn't spend money going out to buy food. When I got to my workplace this morning, I avoided the coffee shop on the first floor by bringing my own food and drink to eat for breakfast.

It's weird packing so much stuff just to go to work every day, but it really cuts down on my weekly expenses. I usually allow myself to buy breakfast or lunch only once a week, and sometimes I don't even do that.

This past weekend was Apple Fest here in town. I took advantage of the free shuttle and all the wonderful deals to "prep ahead".

I lugged POUNDS of apples home and made slow cooker applesauce (man did the house smell good) and froze in usable-for-us portions...some in my packed lunch today.

I hit The Corner Cupboard, stocked up on lavash, lean meats and freezable cheeses and spread and came home and did an assembly thing making enough "rollups" for lunches for a month.

While there I scoped out organic and bulk buy ingredients to make this:

Its what I am drinking today.

Super frugal day (will be days) to recover from a busy weekend.

Smile Pack my lunch

I usually pack my lunch. Definitely saves me a good amount of change every week. Plus its usually healthier than the fast food or food vendors near the office.

Taking public transportation instead of driving is also cheaper for me since gas and parking adds up to significantly more than taking public transportation. And I get to write articles for my blog during my commute.

We missed our apple fest but we're going apple picking this weekend if it kills me. You can buy the dehydrated mini-marshmallows on Ebay in a big bag for your cocoa mix if you're addicted like my husband is

This weekend I picked my mom up on the way to do errands. We planned while the clothes washed and made a big round to optimize shopping to get as many trips to pickup free paper towels and toilet paper (limit one per person coupon, 100% recycled Marcal) as well as the other trips. It also gave us time to pull coupons for her to use. We walked from one grocer to the one next store for one trip. We used reusable bags. I then dropped her off at church on the way home and dropped her groceries off for my dad to put away before going home. No extra gas used as they live right on my way.

I am refinishing our dining room table. I bought it ten years ago for $50. It has taken me that long to get around to finally doing it. But a new one would have been hundreds.

I hung the laudry out in the grogeous fall sunshine and brisk breezes.

I FINALLY bought a whole bunch of the energy efficient light bulbs and started taking down the overhead light covers. Man, those things need a good washing before I put the new bulbs in and replace those covers.

And I shipped two packages using for packing material the plastic shopping bags that I still get at a few places. And finally, I kept picking herbs to hang and dry...we've had a light frost but no freeze yet.

Default Made coffee at home and brought it to work

I made my own coffee and brought it to work. I did the math and figured out that by making my coffee and home and bringing to work and not spending $1.30 per cup they charge for the Starbucks coffee in the cafeteria, I was saving over $500 a year!

I did this also when I developed a coffee habit. I can't drink brewed but espresso doesn't bother my stomach. I bought a lower range machine and a basic grinder. Finding decent beans seems to be the big issue in having something that tastes decent. It really wasn't that hard to learn how to pull shots and steam milk. There are plenty of tips online.

I paid $50 on sale for our machine and have used it for seven years so far.
