Reputation: | I was at the grocery store yesterday and saw a bunch of different bottled water displays. We kicked the bottled water habit last year mainly because I was sick of these massive piles of empty bottles waiting to be recycled in the garage. I was also tired of hauling big flats of water home since they are pretty heavy. We bought a water distiller and plastic reusable beverage bottles. Seeing the water displays at the store I can say that I really do not miss bottled water, so that is one frugal change we made that we don't miss. What frugal thing have you done or thing you gave up that you don't miss that you did to save money? |

Reputation: | We both quit drinking soda about six months ago mainly for health reasons. I really craved it for a while but now it is just kind of over sweet and I could take it or leave it. I am sure not buying soda really saves us a ton of money. The last time I looked a case was about $7 for Coke. |

| Member | Gave up canned soft drinks in favor of making them myself. No more cans/bottles to store or pile up for recycling. Gave up magazines and newspaper deliveries. Easier and faster to get it on the internet. Gave up writing paper checks or paying bills by mail, using a debit card and internet billing paying instead. |

Reputation: | Soda and processed foods, don't know if that is so much a "frugal" choice as it is a health choice. As a matter a fact, giving up cheap processed food is costing us much more at the grocery store but is helping in other areas. I gave up buying movies and music. It's all available somewhere free and legal. |

| Senior Member | I didn't really make a conscious effort to do it but I just stopped buying bottled water. I agree with lucille, I hated lugging around the flats of bottles..especially up to my apartment on the 3rd floor, and the empties take up so much space. I would say I gave up soda but that's not entirely true... I cut WAY down though. I get a couple 2 liters once in a while, but if I run out it doesn't really bother me. I used to keep a stock of cans so I am definitely saving money there. |

Reputation: | I have given up paper products. I was using an extreme amount of paper plates, paper towels, paper cups, plastic spoons, forks, knives. First of all, they're expensive if you keep buying them and keep buying them. And they produce so much waste. My husband was taking bag after bag to the garbage cans. It was ridiculous. So I've cut down on that and I feel great about it. Hardly miss it at all. |
