Default what kind of water heater

We are going to need a new hot water soon and have the option of getting a propane or an electric one -- any opinions as far as cost to run?

Electric "anything", when it comes to utility bills, is more expensive. If you go to the website of your local utility company, they usually have a comparison chart, as well as a list of common appliances/typical operating hours per month and the cost. (based on your local utility billing)
