Reputation: | There's a few items I don't like to buy generic although I have found a lot of them to be just fine. One thing I won't buy is mayonaisse (we only use Hellmans). The only soda we like is Pepsi but we drink a lot of water. I also like name brand cheese although that's probably more my own taste buds than anything else. My husband only likes Guldens mustard. That's about all I can think of right now. |

Reputation: | I will never use generic brand cake mixes. I know that is rather specific, but I've found that by sticking to betty crocker or Duncan Hines I get a better end product. Cheerios are another place where I refuse to buy generic. Cheerios are the only cereal that I'm this way about. |

Reputation: | Certain things like skin coverage products I've never had good luck with when I go generic. Ditto with mascara. But lip and eye liners have been fine. There are always tons of coupon combining options at places like Rite Aid and Walgreens, though, so it's not a big deal. I'll go generic on pretty much anything at least once. But they only have one chance to prove themselves. If it's a lousy quality, I'll never go back. One store chain here in my area that has one of the most awesome generic store brand lines I've ever seen is Hannaford, sometimes still called Shop & Save. |

Reputation: | Generally, I think generic food brands are less tasty than brand-name foods, with a few exceptions (I don't mind generic soda, and the HEB-brand Limon chips are delicious, though very salty). I also have to agree with an earlier commenter who said they wouldn't buy generic cat food. My babies deserve the best--I'd never feed my kitties generic cat food. |

Reputation: | I drink store brand club soda. At $1 a 6 pack, I think it's a deal. I'm not fond of high fructose corn syrup and I like variety. So I have a cupboard of Torani syrups, The sugar-free ones are made with Splenda. My niece and nephew have a choice of 10 different flavors to chose from when they come over. Cost per can with syrup = .25 |

Reputation: | I refuse to buy generic root beer. Either it's Barq's, or my mom's homemade root beer, or nothing! I've also never been pleased w/ generic yogurt. Apart from that, I buy all sorts of generic stuff. Today's shopping trip included generic organic milk and salsa, and I actually prefer Winn-Dixie's ice cream over several name brands. |
