Default When will you refuse to buy generic brands?

Everyone says buy generic and save money. But sometimes I just can't go generic on certain brands. I'm not a snob or anything and I admit some of it might be psychological.

I think generic versions of shampoo, conditioner, skin care products are just not as good as the brand named versions. Does anyone feel this way about certain products?

Luna bars! I've tried a lot of cheaper alternatives. While some of them have amusing names (Tiger's Milk anyone?), none of them work as well for me as a meal replacement.

Yes. I know these are for women. Sheesh.

Anything pet related. My babies deserve the best!

I would go hungry myself first before getting anything less than perfect for my cats.

Cat food - with the recent problems with imported cat food, buying generic became something of a risk.

Vacuum Cleaner - we bought a cheap vacuum cleaner last year, and I'm in the process of saving for a Dyson. The one we bought, $150, does a better job shooting the dirt from one end of the carpet to the other. I borrowed our friend's dyson, and I started saving for one that night. I want the animal one.

I don't get generic toothpaste. I want toothpaste with clinical trials that proves it prevents cavities.

Other than that, I'll try generics for just about anything. Some things (facial tissue), I've found I like the name brand better than the generics. For most things, though, the generics are just as good.

A few dentists have told me that the sonic care toothbrush is a great way to prevent cavities. You might want to give that a shot Philip.

Personally, I cannot stand store brand soft drinks.

Hey, Philip, have you ever tried baking soda? I know it is an old remedy, but it does work. Also um, what was the name... I think Aqua-Brite...something with "brite" on the end, whatever the name, it is about $1 a tube, and I swear that stuff gets your teeth soooo white!! I really noticed a difference! I mostly just used baking soda, though. And I have never had a cavity!

Hand and/or body lotion. If I am going to splurge on some lotion, I'm going to get the good stuff that feels good and smells good. Some L'Occitane or Body Shop or even just drugstore Eucerin. Generic lotion doesn't cut the mustard.

Preach it Frozemud!

Store brand lotions are nothing but a greasy mess that never seems to get absorbed into your skin. L'Occitane is such a dream.

Off-brand cosmetics make me break out.

Ice cream.
