Reputation: | I've cut back significantly on spending money on clothes. These days, a splurge consists of spending $20 at the local Goodwill, ha. I joined book swap communities where you send a book, get a book...ok that still costs some $$$ but at least you can get the latest hardback bestseller for price of postage rather than $15-20. Hmm, then again I really should utilize my library and pay 0. I use less than the specified marking on detergent and softener when washing clothes. I also dilute concentrated dish washing detergent/hand soap/shampoo/pretty much everything. |

Reputation: | Definitely cutting back. How could you not? Going out less, and being more critical of newly non-essential purchases. Always looking for other ways to stretch that dollar, I'm glad I found wisebread. |

Reputation: | [trying to keep gloating to a minimum] In the past year my husband's gotten a major promotion and I've increased my income by more than 50% by getting into a better-paying freelance line of work. So we're not cutting back these days on the day-to-day, and in fact are finding room in our budget to cover some wants that we couldn't have a couple of years ago. But we did decide to hold off on doing some major restoration work on the fixer-upper log cabin we bought last year, so that we could trickle all our available cash into the stock market at what we hope is somewhere near a bottom. Takes a little of the sting out of what has happened to our existing retirement funds! |

Reputation: | Making own laundry soap: 1 c grated Sappo ends, 1/2 c. borax, 1/2 c washing soda; use 1 T. reg, 2 T heavy soiled. Save your $ save your life! bought laundry soaps have all kinds of nasty chemicals & you have to use far more due to the "fillers"; Save $ both ways! Best cleaner I have found: simple paste of baking soda & Kosher salt: add water to consistency of paste. Cleans oven like you wouldn't believe; great on bathtubs, any mold, or scum: then spritz with vinegar, hydrogen peroxide 3% when done; this dynamic duo kills ecoli, salmonella, & all other nasties including VIRUSES! and is STRONGER & MORE EFFECTIVE than clorine: and any other toxin made. (pennies folks!) And better protection! And good for humans, pets, planet! Make own mixes & then just add eggs, oil, etc: save yourself $ both from store bought & again your health: they put way to much nasty chemicals in their cuz they get 600,000 'xs the cost of your meds! SAVE both ways! BTW, get a seal a meal/foodsaver/get rolls cheap on Ebay (generic); sealed vacuumly, light, air & water tight, lasts indefinetly! Cook once makes a mess so always cook for more than one meal: making chili, soups, etc: make enough for at least 2 more meals during the month! Absolutely love the convenience of it all! |

Reputation: | Well, right now I'm unemployed, so I've been cutting back on like, everything. I won't be buying anyone gifts this year (they better like cookies) and I won't be buying any new decorations (probably not even a tree). Reuse, reuse, reuse! Add water to stretch the soup. |
