Default Wine Drinkers: Have you tried "Oak Leaf" from Walmart

It's only $3 a bottle. I have had "not bad" bottles, and bad bottles as well. If you try one, the cab (the one I got) is the only way to go - from what I've heard.

Wal-Mart wine? If you're a wine drinker you probably shouldn't be shopping at Wal-Mart, and if you're shopping at Wal-Mart you probably shouldn't be drinking wine.

It's not a good deal if the wine doesn't taste any good.

Default I wish walmart sold houses and cars...

..if the price of a bottle of wine is just $3.

Does it come with a cork, screw cap, or do you pry off the top with a beer opener?

It comes with a cork. And to the poster who said I shouldn't be drinking wine, your post did make me giggle. In all seriousness though, in other countries such as Europe, wine is not associated with money and prestige the way it is here. Many people drink cheap "table" wine for non-special occasians.

Default Price affects your perception

Most people can't tell the difference between the cheap wine and the expensive wine. In my post "Cheap Wine is Fine" I discuss a study where people rated several wines and were given the price information. They rated a $90 wine favorite and a $5 wine least favorite. Two weeks later they tasted the same wines in a blind taste test. This time the $5 wine rated higher than the $90 wine. You should not judge a wine solely on its price.

My guess is that the cheaper wine will lead to a much nastier hangover depending on how much is consumed.

Really, though, $3 per bottle works out to be the same price as a box of wine. I'm pretty sure most 'boxes' contain the equivilent of three or four bottles of wine, and are usually around $12-14. While box wine certainly isn't going to satisfy a connoisseur, it's fine for the occasional glass or two or to serve at larger get-togethers. Getting it for $3 per bottle also means that you don't have to tie up as much fridge space as you would to the box.

I'm from Michigan and I've always preferred the state made St. Julian wines. They are affordable ($6-10 per bottle) and are very good quality for the price.

LOL I drink wine and don't shop at Wal Mart, so you're on to something.

I guess thinking of wine as a rich people drink is just something we American's grow up with. I'm not fond of alcohol in any form (too expensive for something that isn't all that great), but I can see how cheap wine could be a great option for some people.
