Reputation: | Inspired by the "How have you lowered your monthly bills" thread - anyone who has cut their insurance payouts per month - who did you switch to and from? I've been with Nationwide always and looking for cheaper - but there's loads of insurance companies out there, your suggestions and tips would be most helpful. ps: first post, been lurking and love this place.. great resource, thanks for being here. |

Reputation: | I did this with my auto insurance, switching from a local company (Anchor General/South Coast Auto Insurance) to Progressive. We used to pay $300 per 6 months for liability only, we now get comprehensive for just $60 more:

Reputation: | Speaking as someone who's made an insurance claim or two, I'd like to emphasize the importance of going with a company that actually pays its claims. You can cut your insurance bill by figuring out how much insurance you really need: Get rid of unnecessary coverage and crank your deductibles up so that you're not buying insurance against risks that you can afford to bear on your own. (Personally, I've been buying insurance from Amica, and have been very satisfied.) |

Reputation: | I'm with progressive and I pay about $280 every six months. I have everything covered except collision and emergency roadside service. An ambulance ride to the hospital is about 2-300 dollars, so that insurance is not necessary. I'm only 20 too, which is what makes the deal so great. Just always wear your seatbelt, don't speed, and don't drink and drive. It's easy to get great premiums that way. Also, always get uninsured/underinsured motorist insurance because if you are critically injured, it's gonna come out of your pocket if they don't have insurance. It happened to my stepdad; he was hit head on and his back was broken as well as both heels. He couldn't walk for a year and was stuck with a $60,000 med bill b/c he had to be airlifted to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital and kept in ICU for a week. As far as life insurance goes, there are a lot of life insurance companies to choose from. If you have any life insurance questions, then checkout the forums like the theroundtable.org that have agents on the site who can answer your q's. |
