Default All Animals Deserve Better Treatment

Don't buy furcoats, or any other relevant items. Regardless of whether it is bear skin, or a tigers coat...it's just sick.

With technology today, there shouldn't be any need for using these materials.

Especially in other countries where, rather than bear fur, its DOG AND CAT FUR. And these dogs are skinned alive. And killed. I don't want to show you any videos, but I have posted 1 normal one, and one explicit one below.

1 is general

And the other one, shows just how mistreated these domestic animals are.

YouTube - Chinese Fur Farms - general, open your eyes about the issue

http://youtube.com/watch?v=O_8Ko-9uKRs - view at your own discretion, will require you to be logged into YouTube. Not funny, at all.

Lynn wrote a very good article about this very subject!

She's available for autographs and interview in the lobby.

I've read somewhere that algae provides the best source of protein. I wonder if in 20 years we'll all be eating protein soup like the guys in Matrix. Or maybe I'm thinking of Soylent Green....

Ha ha. I'm just teasing you frozemud. There is a statute of limitations on spoilers, and that movie is so old I think it is reasonable to expect people to get that cultural reference.

By the way, I think that movie is on "Watch it now" in Netflix. If you have Netflix make sure you check it out!

I agree about fur. It's wrong as far as I'm concerned. I'm also against testing on animals (except in certain medical situations). However there are now more reliable methods (animals do not always react the same as humans...certain vaccines went unused for some time because they did not work on lab rats). But it seems ridiculous to me that cleaners and cosmetics and even candy and juice (Mars Inc, and Tahition Noni) perform cruel tests on innocent, defenseless creatures! Especially considering that most of the time it doesn't protect the consumers. When they find a problem they stick a warning label on the product (if you're lucky) and put it on the market regardless.

I totally agree. The atrocities of human behavior are endless. If you are interested in doing something about ill treatment of animals, check out this website: http://www.thepetitionsite.com

There are a lot of petitions there for animal welfare; I've signed quite a few of them and I think some have actually helped make a difference. At least it makes you feel like you're doing something.

I became a vegetarian and supporter of animal rights over 20 years ago. I don't buy fur or leather, don't hunt and I try to buy from companies that don't test on animals.

Weird, 9 posts in and no one is in disagreement? Even though I'm a vegetarian and believe in compassionate treatment of all living beings, I'll play devil's advocate for the sake of discussion.

What do you do about shoes? Arguably, leather shoes aren't necessary. But foot shape and comfort are highly individual. I wouldn't say that affordable, decent quality, non-leather are easy to find. Fur may be cruel, but what alternative do you suggest for people living in truly frigid environments? There aren't that many cost-effective synthetic fibers that are going to be nearly as warm as a proper fur-lined coat. And while we're on the subject, what do we do about meat, dairy, and eggs? They're all cruel industries, but it's entirely impractical to expect people to just give them up. In fact, you may very well have riots if you ask a Texan to give up steak, North Carolinian to give up bbq pork, etc.
