Default Any ideas???

hello every one. i am in need of some assistance.

my hard drive has recently crashed on my pc. so i bought a new hard drive set it to master plugged it all in. so i put my windows xp boot cd in and then select my temp. boot drive to my cd-rom, run it and then it says its unbootable and to select a different drive and restart....

any ideas???

The BIOS is attempting to boot from your blank hard drive. This may be because you didn't successfully tell it to boot from CD (a d'oh but it happens), or it's trying to boot from CD, failing, and falling back to the hard disk.

I would double check all the connections to the CD drive; maybe you knocked one loose when you installed the hard drive. If you burned the XP disc yourself it may be faulty. If neither of those help I would try disconnecting every drive except the CD, and confirm that the machine is capable of booting in this simple configuration. Then add drives one at a time to determine which one is causing a conflict.

yes, it might have been the connection to the harddisk. setting it to master should be done accurately. it could burn the hard disk as the other one said. check your connections, if it doesnt work at all, you might have shorted the hard disk. buy another one?
