Reputation: | I am from TN, but I live in Minneapolis now. My family likes to "rub it in" this time of year, because it is getting warm and summery down there, and we still have a good month and a half or so of coldish weather. I hate hearing about flowers blooming and sun burns when we still have snow on the ground. Everyone has so many negative things to say about living "up north" but I see quite a few positives! Like the other day, I left my water in the car when I went into work, and when I got off work, it was still refreshing and ice cold. True, that in the dead of winter, things that you never thought COULD freeze, do, when you leave them in your car--but it is nice when they just stay cold. I also like the fact that you always know you will have a white Christmas. I love that in the spring everything looks so lush and new after the winter. I love that there are FOUR actual seasons. I love ice skating and sledding on neighborhood hills. I love that weeds never get too overgrown here because they die down so much in the winter. Can anyone else of reasons why they LOVE the cold weather city they live in? |

| Senior Member | Living in Maine we've actually not had a white Christmas a couple years in a row (this one was I think) but its nice to have a better chance than say Florida. I love the leaves. Fall leaves and a crisp fall breeze are the loveliest things ever. I love having an excuse to buy the biggest box of hot chocolate even if there are only two of us in the house. I love snowball fights and snowmen/women. I love feeling like I live in a Thomas Kincade painting. I love teaching my nieces about animal tracks in the snow and tubing. I love watching my puppies get excited because it snowed. They are like kids when it snows, even the 12 yr old. |

Reputation: | I don't live in a cold weather city anymore, but I grew up outside of Detroit. Not the coldest, but cold enough. I always liked the way that the people in my neighborhood came together to help shovel everyone out when it snowed. We lived on a small side street and, until the fireman moved in at the end of the block, were rarely plowed. So, not only did we often have to shovel driveways and sidewalks, but often we shoveled out the street, helped cars that got stuck, etc. I also liked that it didn't matter what you wore outside when it was cold. Everyone looked silly bundled up, but as long as you were warm, everythings was good. Two words - Indian Summer. There's absolutely no substitute for those last few warm days in the fall, after it's already turned cold and you think that winter's set in. Now that I live in the south, I still appreciate that I understand the physics of driving on snow, know how to dress for the cold and own a useful scraper for my car - bought up north, of course. |

Reputation: | Sledding, for sure, and having actual Christmas weather at Christmas is nice. Sleeping in is great, too, in the winter, when you get to have lots and lots of blankets. Also, the fact that I never have to buy ice for a cooler - I just fill it up with snow! |

Reputation: | I've lived in Michigan all my life, and I still hate November through March. I hate the cold weather, I hate the snow, I hate the idiots on the road who can't drive in the snow, I hate the salt that stains your clothes and ruins your vehicles, I hate hot being able to get fresh high-quality produce for six months of the year, I hate high heating bills, I hate not being able to grill outside... but I'll stop there. Of course it does make you anticipate and be thankful for spring and summer that much more, but that isn't worth the price of admission. One of these days we'll get around to moving.

Reputation: | I'm a lifelong Minnesotan. I'm not a fan of hot weather. Our summers here can get pretty unpleasantly humid which is why I don't hate winter. I don't mind the cold most winter days (except when it gets completely BRUTAL - like 30 below with windchill). I greatly dislike driving in snow and ice, and shoveling really sucks. That said, I do love the beginning of spring and fall when it's still a little brisk. Not too cold, not too hot. Those are the best days. |
