Reputation: | There was just a 5.8 earthquake east of LA. It was felt as far away as Las Vegas. I was in the car listening to AirTalk (NPR) and Larry Mantle basically told his guest -- hmm, that's an earthquake, so obviously, we're gonna talk about the trembler now, so whatever else you had to say, maybe next time. LOL. I didn't think it was a big enough deal to throw out the rest of the interview! Maybe I've lived in So. Cal. for too long. |

| Senior Member | Hah yeah I found out on Twitter before NPR on twitter even reported it. I'm not a Cali person so I have no concept of how a 5.4 would feel. |

Reputation: | Check out this graph on the Twitter blog. Twitter users knew about the earthquake before the mainstream news outlets. Of course, it's faster to tweet "earthquake" than to write 300 words on it. Twitter users break the news while it's happening! Blog post: http://blog.twitter.com/2008/07/twit...news-wire.html Graph: ![]() @Linsey -- everything seems fine. Family and friends are safe, and no one I know is freaked out. Good times all around! |

| Senior Member | Yeah a 3 normally is enough to wake you up but not enough you can't go back to sleep. A 5 is closer to wondering if anything got broken and might set of some car alarms. I remember the days of living in SoCal very well.

Reputation: | I felt it while working at home - about 100 miles north of L.A. It made my head rattle and I was dizzy for a minute or two after.
