Default Ebay alternatives?

Can't do a yard sale (no space, not allowed).

Craigslist and other such listing sites are far from being near me.

Newspaper ads cost too much $.

I have some weird stuff I want to get rid of. Thought it'd be nice to make a few bucks before I give up and freecycle it. Ebay seems a huge pita and $$$. Anyone know of any alternatives for online selling used items?

Yahoo! Auctions is one that I've used before. The problem is once you go outside of eBay, you'll get less traffic and maybe not sell the item for as high a price as you might at eBay.

Some eBay alternatives I researched when we decided to stop selling on eBay due to numerous reasons (constantly increasing fees, no customer service, etc.):

I'm not sure if some of these sites are limited to commercial sellers. Here's a list I often refer to when doing my research:

P.S. The Yahoo! US and Canada Auctions site is now retired. It's only open to Asia now - Taiwan, Singapore and Hong Kong. (Yahoo! is bigger in Asia).

I don't see how Craigslist is far from being near you. You must be near one or more of the bordering sections they have. You can list in them all. I live near the NH/ME border and list opposite days on both when I list things. I've also posted nicer things in MA, as its really not too far to drive for a $300 item.

I live equidistant from the Erie and Pittsburgh, PA areas. Trust me, no one is going to drive from there to here to get the things I've got to get rid of. And in my entire county there are probably a dozen people that even know what Craigslist is lol.

Thanks hermione - my lunch 'to do' project will be to look through the links you gave and see if any of the things I prepped this weekend will sell on them

I would try Craigslist anyway... you'd be surprised... what if someone is passing through your area or something.

I've been outside North America way too long. I don't know how things are done a daily basis anymore.

Is everything in the US done online now?

Just ten years ago, before I left, many smaller supermarkets in many areas used to have a bulletin board near the entrance that patrons could stick up for free photocopied sale notices and such.

Are those things gone now that Walmart and Costco are everywhere and everyone shops online?

Some people used to use telephone poles to post for sale notices.

Are there no telephone poles in the US anymore now because everyone uses a cellphone?

Churches, libraries, universities, colleges, and community centers also used to have community notice boards for their users to post little ads.

Let me guess, those are gone too now that everyone in the US just stays at home and uses their computer to watch Religious ceremonies, read e-books, and take classes.

In many communities, there used to be small weekly buy and sell newspapers where people could purchase a classified ad for under two or three bucks per issue.

Are they gone too...killed by Ebay and the Internet?

What about using local Internet websites in you community to post your ads? I don't mean Craigslist, but sites that are centered in your area? Do a google search, your bound to find one or two with a forum for local sales.

I've been away too long...things must have changed a lot...seems that people must be doing everything online nowadays.
