Reputation: | Here's where you can post any interesting hobbies you might have. I'll start I like making amateur [no budget] short films with my friends. I've been producing and editing videos since the 7th grade, and since then I've made a number of short videos for school projects. I encourage you to check some of my older videos out on my blog, http://www.winnecinema.com I also play a number of musical instruments. I've been playing piano since the age of 5, and I started guitar a few years ago. I also beatbox (although I'm not sure if you can count that as an instrument. You can see some of my beatboxing, guitar, and rapping skills (haha) on Winnecinema (link above). I've recently gotten into dance. I've been practicing how to c-walk a lot, and later I want to learn a little bit of ballroom. I'm interested in learning new hobbies, so I hope I can get some ideas here! =) |

Reputation: | I wish I had rhythm in any way. I'm mediocre at musical instruments and singing (although I love listening to music), and I'm absolutely terrible at dancing. Those sound like really fun hobbies though! In the last couple of years I've really gotten into cooking. Thanks to family influence, most of the food I cook is Italian. I enjoy going to restaurants to eat healthy and savory foods, and then play around with similar sorts of ingredients at home. I think what I love about cooking is the opportunity to improvise Reading has been a lifelong hobby. I've been going out of my mind with boredom the last week or so because I have no new reading material (quickly fixed by a trip to the library today). I'm also learning Arabic. It's not a hobby per se - I'm doing an Arabic minor - but I adore it. I love its complexities, its exceptions to the rules, and its beautiful script. It's challenging in all the ways that I love about foreign languages. I'm also hoping to take a couple semesters of Russian before I graduate |

Reputation: | Interesting thread :0) sloria1 - that's a lot of video you've got there :0) Awesome! What editing software do you use? Are you planning on taking it further into a career? I'm going into the third year of a four year Bachelor of Design Photography major degree and my last two briefs were video. You can check them out Observation & Assessment if you like. They have a Film Noir aesthetic and are psychologically based. I also take a heap of photos and do a lot of Photoshop work. I love the Mac labs at Uni, could set up camp, lol. Jess - Arabic sounds fascinating, what an exotic language and people. What are you reading at the moment? |

Reputation: | amandajane, those look really awesome. Fantastic job! I'll be passing your link on to my friend who's a psych major - I think he would definitely appreciate these. I wish I was creative enough to do something like this I'm reading The Faiths of the Founding Fathers (Holmes), which was a Christmas present from one of my friends. I'm about to start Mullaney's The Ministry of Culture and Rick Riordan's The Lightning Thief, which I hear rivals Harry Potter (I'm going through withdrawal, haha). I'm not sure I believe it though. I took out of the library today some others, though - some mysteries, some cookbooks, a memoir, and a book of Jalal al-Din Rumi's poetry. Are you reading anything that you'd recommend? |

Reputation: | Hey thanks Jess (where's the blushing smilie, lol) Thankfully we had to keep the videos to below two minutes, even that small amount of time was a huge challenge :0) I'd be interested to know what your friend thinks of them. Technically speaking, if there is such a thing, some people with OCD would be more exact about their rituals. My Mum was diagnosed with it when she was in her early 80's and had lived with it all her life, bless her. At the moment I'm reading a couple of recipe books I've dug out from the long distant past and have also been reading a couple of psychology books, it's an endless source of inspiration for me. Not your average daily read I suppose. The last fiction book I read was Theo's Odyssey, by Catherine Clement, a book about world faiths, which is something else that I find interesting too. :0) |

Reputation: | Very nice work on your blog! Hehe, we used the same Wordpress theme. The OCD videos are so haunting. Where do you get your soundtracks? And what do you use to edit your videos? I've been using Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 and occasionally After Effects for compositing. |

The soundtrack for the first one came from a dance CD called "Return To The Source" and the second was from a Brothers Quay animation. I use Finalcut Pro, I'm doing a directed elective on it next semester. Awesome program, turns video to pulp. :0) | |

Reputation: | Thank you. I'll have to check that music out. I'm always looking for new soundtracks, especially instrumental stuff. I use a PC, so unfortunately can't use FinalCut =(. Premiere works great, but I've been looking for another "lighter" program that I can use just to make simple edits for quick videos. |

Reputation: | READING. I read like crazy. Last year, I read 185 new boooks. I hope to at least match that this year. WRITING. I'm an aspiring YA author. My first submission landed me agent, but no sales. This year, I plan to write a book that WILL sell. LEARNING. I am always up for learning new things. TRAVEL. My fiance lives in Chicago, I live in Ohio, so until I move there later this year, I will be traveling to see him. In addition, most of my best friends are scattered all over the country. I hope to get to see some of them this year, and visit new places. Last year, I got to go to San Jose, San Francisco, Chicago (of course), New York City, and Atlanta. Most of those trips were gifts. |

Reputation: | Well, there's cooking... and then there is my other love, bellydancing. Unfortunately, it's not very frugal, as classes and costumes can really add up. It's so much fun, though, and I've met some wonderful women and men as a result. The belly dance community here in Maine is larger than you might expect, and very welcoming and supportive. |
