Reputation: | NONE. My Sandisk Sansa e260 works just fine. It really is a pity that people seem to equate ipod as mp3 player, and when you tell them there's other brands of mp3 players out there, they don't believe you. |

Reputation: | I have a 30 gig video iPod. 5.5 generation, I believe. I got it in June. This is my 2nd one. The first one was a gift given to me in April, that got stolen 5 weeks later when some jacka$$ broke into my car on Memorial Day. Before that, I had a 15 gig 3rd generation iPod. The batteries quit working on me in late 2006 (I could only use it when it was plugged in, or for a total of seven minutes when it was not plugged in), and I ended up giving it to my ex when I got the 5.5 generation in April (the one that got stolen). The one I have now, I saved up and bought. And I keep it close to me at ALL TIMES. No jacka$$ is getting his hands on this one. |

Reputation: | Alex and jkuo13, Yeah, I have experimented by putting Linux on iPod and also Rockbox on my Frankenpod/hackenpod. I really like the added feature sets and the freedom of an open source firmware, but both have been really buggy with my mashed up iMess. For some reason, those programs find conflicts between the old interface/new drive but the Apple issued firmware does not. Again, I am not super tech savvy, so I don't know what is wrong...it is probably the result of human error on my part. Great suggestion though. I think the open source firmwares are a great route to go. |

Reputation: | I don't have an Ipod. I do not have an MP3 Player. I have not yet investigated to see what they are and what they can do. I very seldom listen to music I mostly listen to books on tape or CD. Are many books available that can be played on these devices. I usually borrow my books from the library to save money. If library's or other locations have books available for free down load to this type of midia I might consider getting one. |

Reputation: | boba1212: I hear what you're saying. Apple has made the ipod so popular and easy to use that it's what most people think of for an mp3 player (despite the fact that it's probably playing aac files...). I don't think it's quite gotten to the point with like soda pop, where saying "Coke" can mean any carbonated drink, but it's pretty close. bluecobia: I can understand sticking to old school tech. It still works fine, and audio books on tape and cd are readily available at most libraries. You actually can get downloadable audio books at a lot of libraries, but it's highly variable whether an individual library will have access to a download service. There are also free audio book at sites like librivox, audiobooksforfree, etc. Here are two links that might be of interest starting points for getting free audio books. I personally like the smaller size and large storage of my sansa player. No flipping tapes or swapping cd's for me. |

| Member | I actually bought a Creative Zen for myself instead of an Ipod. At the time I purchased my Zen, I bought an Ipod for my wife and within one year, the battery was completely drained. I have always preferred the Zen to the Ipod. Just my opinion.

Reputation: | wow..3 ipods and an iphone? You're some kind of apple maniac. I have zero because I seem to always shy away from things that are too popular. when things get too popular I don't think it's cool anymore.

Reputation: | I've never bought an iPod, but I've won seven over over the last three years. :^D Yeah, I'm an uncannily lucky person... The first one I ever won was an iPod Shuffle - back when it first came out and still had some degree of coolness to it. A bit later, I won a 30Gb iPod Video and kept it (I gave the Shuffle to my little brother). The other five iPods were either sold on craigslist or traded for favors. |

Reputation: | Wow Night Runner, you are lucky, thought of bottling that luck and selling it rather than your winnings? I have one really old ipod and one new little Sony mp3/fm radio/flash drive/ dictaphone and I love it soo much more than my ipod. It actually takes and plays files in any format so I can listen to radio shows I've downloaded that aren't podcasts. |
