Default I'm in heaven :0)

I just got my new imac last night - it's soooo cool, lol. Not meaning to sound like I'm bragging or anything, just wanted to share the joy

*stick out tongue* at amandajane. I envy you so! I used to use Macs when I was in high school and hope I can get one again. They just look like the coolest computers.

In case anyone is interested, since Alex was asking David DeFranza what distribution he uses, the Linux operating system I have is Ubuntu. It's a nifty program. Just go to Ubuntu.com and fill in the form to request a free CD. It comes in a nifty foreign envelope from the Netherlands I think, and they send it to you completely free; they don't even charge for postage.

Cool. Apple was smart in putting their computers in schools. It seems to have worked in turning you into a customer!

Did you get FCP Studio too? I use FCE and it's great. If you don't need Studio, you can save a few bucks with Express. Has AVCHD support and my Sony camera works perfectly.

Thanks, I was thinking Ubunto would be the one I try.

Hi Alex, yeah I need my imac for Uni. We used them last semester and now I'm hooked, lol. It was such a relief to turn my pc off and decide never to use it on the net, no more ms updates, spyware scans blah blah. I didn't realise how much it stressed me until I got this and started using it :0)

I got FCE with the imac, at student prices, and with a grant. I'm a lucky lady! Just gotta do the work now!

It's kinda like staring at a tv screen, I got the 20" and it dwarfs my old 17" pc monitor. Heaven knows what the bigger ones feel like!

I know how that feels! When we got our new Dell last year, I got the 19" monitor. Our old monitor was 15" and the 19" was a huge shock and felt so luxurious. But after using the new one for a few hours, when I went in to the other room and saw the 15" monitor, I couldn't believe how tiny it was and wondered how we ever thought that was normal.

I've had the same Dell since 2001. No problems with it.

I was a PC die-hard for many years, but when I had to teach students how to use programs on macs, I started to reconsider. I got a Macbook Pro about a year ago and absolutely love it. I also have a windows XP PC that I built for gaming, but I haven't been using it lately. It's good to have around to test out websites, but you can do even that now with a mac and the right software.

My mac was definitely the best investment I have made in a lonnnng time.

I just switched to Ubuntu Linux a few weeks ago, and I have to say, it was really easy to set up. I got myself into a few problems when I tried attaching an external monitor to my laptop (I maintained to reconfigure the display settings into the "not working" mode), but it's all up and running smoothly now.

The last straw for me came when I was reinstalling Windows for something like the second time in a month. I was having all sorts of stability issues. Linux takes some getting used to, if you've been using Windows for many years, but I don't think it's harder at all...just different.

That said, I still use Windows at work. :-/

Mac user here since 2003. My first mac (iBook) went to pieces when my dog stepped on the cord, panicked and swung it across the room. I've had my G5 iMac for about three years and LOVE it. It takes very little space, runs fast, never had any problems (okay, a Microsoft product has crashed a few times) and it is so hassle-free. Oh, doesn't hurt that it's so easy on the eyes. Never going back to Windows at home though I'm 100% sure I need to use it for work. DH uses Windows because he likes to play games, I only use my mac for surfing, school etc. So no need to even update in a looong time.
