Reputation: | *stick out tongue* at amandajane. In case anyone is interested, since Alex was asking David DeFranza what distribution he uses, the Linux operating system I have is Ubuntu. It's a nifty program. Just go to Ubuntu.com and fill in the form to request a free CD. It comes in a nifty foreign envelope from the Netherlands I think, and they send it to you completely free; they don't even charge for postage.

Did you get FCP Studio too? I use FCE and it's great. If you don't need Studio, you can save a few bucks with Express. Has AVCHD support and my Sony camera works perfectly. | |

| Senior Member | //mac fangirl rant on I was a PC die-hard for many years, but when I had to teach students how to use programs on macs, I started to reconsider. I got a Macbook Pro about a year ago and absolutely love it. I also have a windows XP PC that I built for gaming, but I haven't been using it lately. It's good to have around to test out websites, but you can do even that now with a mac and the right software. My mac was definitely the best investment I have made in a lonnnng time. //mac fangirl rant off |

Reputation: | I just switched to Ubuntu Linux a few weeks ago, and I have to say, it was really easy to set up. I got myself into a few problems when I tried attaching an external monitor to my laptop (I maintained to reconfigure the display settings into the "not working" mode), but it's all up and running smoothly now. The last straw for me came when I was reinstalling Windows for something like the second time in a month. I was having all sorts of stability issues. Linux takes some getting used to, if you've been using Windows for many years, but I don't think it's harder at all...just different. That said, I still use Windows at work. :-/ |

Reputation: | Mac user here since 2003. My first mac (iBook) went to pieces when my dog stepped on the cord, panicked and swung it across the room. I've had my G5 iMac for about three years and LOVE it. It takes very little space, runs fast, never had any problems (okay, a Microsoft product has crashed a few times) and it is so hassle-free. Oh, doesn't hurt that it's so easy on the eyes. Never going back to Windows at home though I'm 100% sure I need to use it for work. DH uses Windows because he likes to play games, I only use my mac for surfing, school etc. So no need to even update in a looong time. |
