Question Mac, PC, Linux, other?

Ever since getting my first Mac in 2004, I've been one of those annoying Apple people that tells everyone to switch. As far as I know, no one ever goes back to Windows from OS X, but there were some famous OS X to Linux in recent years (Bye, Apple [dive into mark] as one example).

WiseBread readers, what's your main computer?

I'm a windows PC USER. Been one since forever, and can't complain. I dunno what people are doing to their Dells and their computers to cause all the problems I keep hearing about, but I haven't had em.

I don't even think I know anyone who's a Mac user to be honest. But I was talking to a friend a couple weeks ago, and he did say he's interested in getting one of those computers where the whole thing's in the monitor (the mac one).

Mmmmm Macs *drool*

I have a PC at the moment but am using Mac G5's at Uni to do my video editing. I am hoping to get a Mac before I go back in Feb. I have a Mamiya RZ medium format camera kit that I'm hoping to sell which will almost cover the cost. Then it's just Finalcut Pro which is $1200 student price. I can't wait! I'm loving it. :0)

It's suprising how using a Mac can make you want to switch!

I used a PC forever, but two years ago got a mac and I am never going back to windows (once you go mac, you never going back?) I had had enough of windows and it's bugs so I converted my PC to linux and use that (ubuntu) and it's great.

Ubuntu is a distribution of Linux that is honestly, totally easy to use. I set it up without any code or anything crazy that you would expect with from the linux crowd. Go to their website and check it out. You can download a sample disk. Burn it, restart your pc with it in the drive and you can see what it is like to run linux for as long as you keep it on. It's a good way to test drive it without taking the commitment to partition your hard drive.

My two computers, mac and linux work great and can do anything that I need.

Check out all the Mac enthusiasts responding to this thread! Sounds like your friend wants to get an i-Mac. I'm looking to purchase a MacBook Pro--my first laptop and my third Mac. I'll be keeping my current two--my 1996 Macintosh Performa 6300CD (one of the "Road Apples" but I still like it better than any PC I've used) and a 2002 e-Mac.

I was less than elated with the new products announced at MacWorld Conference and Expo today. I'm somewhat interested in the Time Capsule but will pass on the MacBook Air as I believe the MacBook Pro is a better value for not a whole lot more money.

They posed the MacBook Air is the middle-tier laptop, slightly better than MacBook, slightly less sophisticated than MacBook Pro. I, however, beg to differ and would never part ways with my 13" Black MacBook for the Air, even though it looks cool and I like the keyboard. I blogged about buying a MacBook on a budget today, you should check it out.

Another plus for switching is Macs hold their resale value very well.

I just ebay'd my G4 Powerbook, and got $600 for it. (If I was better at selling things on ebay, I'd probably have been able to get closer to $1000.)

The $600 helped cushion the blow a little when I got my MacBook Pro.

Windows - but only because I am a gamer. Really that is all I do on my PC except some web surfing so I am trapped.

I'm a PC user, but when it comes time to buy something new, I think I'm going the Mac route. I just hate the idea of having to buy all new software all at once.

12" iBook G4 here. My little mac has been going strong since 2004. The case is all scratched up, the little rubber feet are missing, and I somehow got some rice under the left shift key, but I wouldn't trade it for the fastest PC out there.
