Default Obama/McCain/Other?

Who are you rooting for?

How much do you think the president affects your finances and will that be the primary basis of how you vote or do other issues take precendent?

for me, finances will not be the primary issue, though maybe they will be indirectly benefitted/hurt. I plan on voting for the candidates with the best plan for the country as a whole, and I think that once we as a nation start to feel good about our situation again, the economy will begin to work itself out.

Two issues important to me are reproductive rights and leveraging alternative energy methods.

I am mostly interested in the economy -- if that is doing well, then many other things fall into place or maybe that is the lens through which I see things. Healthcare is a pressing issue and I have some concerns about capital gains tax; wouldn't mind seeing incentives for alternative energy.

My hot button issues are education & healthcare. My choice is Barack Obama.

Healthcare is my biggest concern, with the priority being the need for universal health care and also the need to protect women's ability to control their own bodies and medical decisions. My second. concern is the environment. After that there is a plethora of issues that I care about: education, housing, taxes, the economy...

In case you can't tell, I'm a bleeding heart, tree hugging, socialist Barak supporter. Actually I really want Matt Santos to run, but as that is out of the realm of possibility, I'll have to content myself with his real life inspiration.

Neither of them. They're to busy worrying about lipstick rather than real issues. I'm going green party.

I agree with Julie that the economy is one of the most important issues right now, because it will have an impact on so many issues. To see a turn around in the economy there needs to be some major changes and not just short-term quick fixes like we have seen from the politicians (e.g. Wall Street Bailout, Economy Stimulus Package). Some of the major fixes need will need to be made to things like education, reducing the nation’s debt, infrastructure, alternative bailout, reduce inflation, etc. I saw a great write up on an economic recovery plan that has short-term and long-term goals, while putting it all in perspective here: www.feedingwealth.com/Home/Default.aspx?tabid=72&forumid=5&postid=10&scope=po sts

Although it's not my country I've been pretty interested in this campaign so far. If I was in the States I'd have to go with Obama.
I had to laugh at Almost Frugal's post- I always ended up wondering why Jed Bartlett wasn't running the world when I watched West Wing. Also it reminded me of this fun article from the BBC last month when they compared this election with the last season of West Wing:
