Default Raising Adult Geeks One Child at a Time....

I had to share...

I love my husband. I also love a little Sci-fi every know and again. As a family, we used to love the original Stargate movie as a good time for the adults and older (8 and up, maybe?) kids. Since then there has been a Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis series featured only on the Sci-fi channel.

We don't get cable, but we have enjoyed ordering the Season discs from Netflix. My husband would love to unwind from a hard day's work in front of an episode (free from commercials) with an orange in one hand, and a kid or two in the other. It has become a family affair. And with a little parental discernment (covering eyes for scary parts) it has become a comforting ritual at our house.

Today my husband had to go to a drug screening for a contracted job he may be doing later in the year. Since my daughter had a Home School P.E. class at the YMCA today also, I suggested that they carpool, and he get our grocery shopping and list of home improvement items all at one time. The simple trip soon became more complicated as my hubby suggested maybe he could take our 4-year old son as well.

Wouldn't you know that they were all ready to go, when I noticed that our 2-year old was missing. I glanced out at the van to see that he was strapped into the back of the van and wearing nothing but some Spider-Man underwear and a pair of two-sizes-too-big cowboy boots. He was certain he was going too.

Fast forward to an hour later. Everyone has left. My 2-year-old is with me screaming and crying. He wanted to go! I ask him, "Sweetie, what do you want? Mommy will try to get it for you, OK?"

He looked me square in the eye and said, "Mommy.... I need DarDate...."

Is it so awful that instead of laying down for a nap, he is now sitting on the couch in those same cowboy boots, eating a huge bowl of chocolate ice cream, and watching one of the less scary episodes of Stargate? He's happy anyway.....

Linsey, that's beautiful.

It's better to raise them as geeks than jocks, anyway.

That's adorable Linsey.

You can't go wrong with geeks! (That's what I tell the ladies, anyway).

Go Geeks! My kids will be BSG fans, I'm almost positive. And Firefly. And Miles Naismith Vorkosigan (not a movie---a book).

Nice, very nice.

Spider-Man underwear is apparently very popular...One of the FWW ladies wrote about her son turning up for his Mormon baptism wearing Spider-Man undies...They (the church) made him take them off (you can only wear white, and Spider-Man knickers are not white) and he ended up mooning the whole congregation when the white robe went transparent after the dunking. :S

Spider-man undies are a staple at my house. My 2 year old is not potty trained fully, but insists on wearing them OVER his diaper. Oh, and they also wear them backwards. Apparently the character is on the back and just a little spider on the front... so they ALWAYS put them on the wrong way so they can see "spidey..."

Probably no one wants to know this, but I received have Wonder Woman underoos for my fourth birthday. I totally wish they made them for adults, because I felt like SUCH a badass at the time. Every now and then, I'd love to feel like I have an invisible jet and a lasso handy.

Andrea... I had the Wonderwoman Underoos too... and I loved them!

This story from FOXNews says they were to be released in adult sizes in 2002.. but alas.. they never came to be.

Those are a hoot! (And a little sexy if you ask me... ) Thanks for sharing... now if I can explain to my hubby why they cost almost $25.... and why I need them!

I was almost scared to open the link.. in my search for adult underoos, I came across sooo much drag ensemble and bizarro adult websites, it wasn't funny..... I am now soaking my browsing history in really hot water and bleach before I let the kids cruise PBSkids.org.
