Default Regarding the spammers

It occurs to me that the more we stay away from wisebread because of the spammers the more they have won. Yes it's annoying but can't we overlook those threads (until they are deleted which they surely will be?) Lets not let them win! They are rather pathetic really, why let them destroy our encouragement? This is a great community with a lot of valuable input from the members, if we let them win then we are bowing to their wishes - come of ppl - lets ignore their threads, it'll only be them that lose in the long run!

In my experience with a few internet forums, moderators have a strange aversion to deleting threads...no matter how useless they are. A better solution may be to move all spam threads to a separate forum that doesn't show up on the "New Posts" search. Like a thread purgatory.

In my experience, the Wisebread moderators are doing a great job of deleting the spam. It may take a little time but it does get deleted. Keep up the good work, Will & Greg & anyone else we don't know about!

I don't think the spammers goal is to get us to stop posting on the forums... If we avoid the forums they lose as well?

Maybe just make it so that people with fewer than 20 posts, who wish to make a thread, have to wait until their post is approved by a mod before it gets put up.

Other forums I've been to flag new posters posts if they contain links. This could go a long way to stopping the spams 'effectiveness'.

I want to thank everyone for doing so much spam flagging. You guys make this forum possible.

(By the way, I've been awarding people karma points for being the first to spot a specific spammer, just a way to say thanks.)

That is a great idea. I'm researching a couple of possible VB addons that will do that. This one is my favorite so far. If you guys have seen other good VB mods that help with spam, please let us know.

I don't even understand what is the big deal, so there are a few spam threads, don't open them, they are pretty obvious. What a ridiculous reason for staying away.

I definitely can't say I stay away because of Spam. Spam is a way of life and inevitable. I don't open them (although maybe I should be reporting them, lol) and go on about my day. Most of the VBulletin forums I am on are small enough to move them to a hidden spam section, and I've always found restrictions unless a huge forum a tad annoying to members who may have lurked a long time before joining because they want to contribute a information source. Yeah they might understand but it can be a big turn off as well.

What really bugs me about the SPAM is that it shows up in the "Last Post" column on the forums home page. That means I have to click into the forum to check up on a particular thread. That's a pretty minimal problem though, and I'm certainly not staying away on account of them

I'm having that problem several times over when I click "New Posts." That's how I review the forums every time I visit, and so I have to wade through plenty of spam threads, and there are good threads in between, some of which I miss.

A thread purgatory would be an most excellent solution for this.

The "thread purgatory" might work with something like this.
