We got a Western Digital external drive for Christmas, but not everything was on it, and unfortunately I need to be able to run my Adobe CS2 which is quite the hog. Since I put up ads on CL I've got people trying to sell me "almost new" laptops they only used for a couple months for $100-300 off the new pricetag. *rolls eyes* like I was born yesterday, lol. I'll be holding out as long as I can, and May would be nice especially if the tax rebate comes in by then. But we don't have a desk for the desktop (its on a fishtank stand) so I have to sit sideways on the couch to use it which is killing my back. If its not one thing its another.

sorry to hear about your poor laptop Mine pretty much holds my digital life so I would be devastated if it broke.

My home built desktop was broke for the past 3 months... I just never had time to figure out what was wrong. And then I had to send back a part to newegg.com. Finally it's up and running again.... and I've found that it's really strange using it these days since I've used my laptop exclusively for a while now.

I have just rebooted my computer a week ago. The thing was swarming with viruses and wouldn't even budge anymore. I asked help from my friends who were techie enough and got my computer into tip-top shape again.. But before all that, I really had a hard time and was really worried about it. It sucked for me big time..

I wish my problem was that simple Fortunately I do keep my computer clean and in good running condition. She got dropped at one point though when the dogs bumped into me and it effected the hard drive (right in the CS2 brush folder) which ultimately lead to its demise I'm sure.

Sometimes but not always (I don't want to get your hopes up) you can take the old drive out of the laptop and put it in an external enclosure and it may work just long enough to transfer some of your files back from it (Doc's and even Favorites). Could be worth looking into. Also if it's just the hard drive you shouldn't need to replace the computer just replace the hard drive.

Good Luck

I have actually just recently started myself a "techie" fund as both my laptop and my iPod are showing signs of dying. Of course, I don't absolutely NEED to replace either should they die, but they're things I know I'm going to want to replace if they die.
