Default The "Say HI!" thread: How did you find Wise Bread?

Introduce yourself dear Wise Breaders! Please let us know how you found our little website!

Hi, I'm Greg and I'm the tech monkey. I can't live without soy lattes, flip-flops and big fields of grass.

Hello I'm Chris! I write java all day, collect tv shows, like to dabble in the stock market, and love to read. I hope to do great things in life one day... once I get off my lazy ass!

I notice you two have conveniently left out your poker addictions.

Default Poker?

Really? You guys play poker, too? Ok now, 'fess up...Hold 'Em, Omaha, or other? Limit, pot-limit, or no limit? Online, casinos, home games, or all of the above? Tournaments or cash games? Or was Will just kidding and I'm making a fool of myself?

Oh, and hi, I'm Sarah. I suppose the most salient feature of my life right now is that I just got married a little over two weeks ago. Outside of moving, organizing, cursing Target's evil return policy (or their "don't you dare try and return this!!" policy, as the case may be) and throwing crap away, I actually do have a life. I love to read, particularly character-driven fiction of the sci fi/space opera type but I'm actually not that picky as long as it has, you know, WORDS. My day job is in computer support, though I do a weird mix of that and admin stuff here. I like deep conversations and frivolous movies.

I believe tournament Texas Hold'em is their addiction of choice, but I'll let them confess that for themselves.

Character-dirven sci fi space opera? You wouldn't by any chance be a Firefly fan would you?

So it starts. Man, keep your Joss Whedon proselytizing off this forum!

j/k. I'm as sad as the next nerd about Firefly being canceled.

Default Firefly, et al

Yes on the Firefly. Also on the Battlestar Galactica (though no one asked). No on anything else by Joss Whedon, though I haven't actually watched much of it. Vampires aren't my thing.

Yes also on the Harry Potter, and the Miles Vorkosigan, and the Liaden Adventures. And my husband's trying to get me hooked on DragonLance.

You know, Hermione would go crazy over Daily Lit.

I haven't followed BSG that much but I heard it is a great show. I believe Greg follows it religiously. (either the show or Grace Park, not sure which.)

Hi Sarah,

Yes, I like to play poker. Mostly hold em. With friends (like the weekly game Chris and I play at our dayjob), it's usually no limit hold em. In the casinos, I like to play limit.

I used to play a lot of poker online at Party Poker (aff link), back when I didn't have Wise Bread to keep me occupied. I dabbled in sit-n-gos, no limit and limit cash games. Never did have the patience to grind through a long tournament.

My greatest claims to poker fame are from the 2005 World Series of Poker.

1. Getting a mention on Pauly's poker blog - "Yesterday, Greg Go asked to take a picture with me." As if just saying "Greg Go" would mean anything to anyone other than me. (Pauly is the biggest name in the poker blogging world.)

2. Making the final table at a WSOP event. Alas, it was only the free media tournament and they took my winning to give to charity. Pfft!

Do you play, Sarah?

I'm not playing all that much these days, but I love poker. It satisfies my gambling needs while giving me a chance to skew the odds in my favor. I could go on and on about the beauty of the game, but I'll save that for another day.

Cheers, and good cards!

Battlestar Galactica rocks! It's gritty, has great characters, and spaceships! It satisfies my wish for compelling TV drama... and has spaceships!

Since we're talking TV now, I highly highly recommend:
  • How I Met Your Mother
  • Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip

I also watch, but am less enthusiastic about:
  • Heroes
  • Lost
  • 30 Rock
