Reputation: | Produce! Veggies and fruit are sooo good for you, and sooo tasty! Some of my favorites: asparagus, artichoke, peas, carrots, sweet potato (often mislabelled "yam" at the grocery), clementines, apples (especially Fuji), strawberries, blueberries, craisins, dried mango, peaches etc. As far as veggies go I reccomend frozen. Canned has too much sodium, and typically has bad flavor and texture. Fresh is ok, but requires extra prep and goes bad quickly. Plus frozen tends to be a little more nutritious because it's frozen right after being harvested. I don't reccomend canned fruit either, too much extra sugar. |

Reputation: | I had a college classmate that used to always bring cut red bell peppers pieces to snack on during class. At first I was skeptical but after tasting them I changed: they are slightly sweet, crunchy and I can't imagine that they'd be bad for you. Anyway, she converted me. Just had to throw in my 2 cents there on that one. |

Reputation: | Tangerines! I love that right now is the season for this yummy citrus fruit. They're so much easier to peel than oranges. I usually toss three in my backpack in the morning and snack on them throughout classes and work. |

Reputation: | My wife & I have weaned ourselves mostly off of bread - although we do have some high-fiber, whole grain stuff from time to time. More often than not, if we're having sandwich-type meals, we use "wraps" (formerly known as "tortillas.") and Mission makes a product called "Carb Balance" whole wheat tortillas that are packed with truckloads more fiber & protein than any old ordinary tortilla. And they keep much longer than traditional breads too. Rob

Reputation: | My favorite snack woud have to be whole wheat pita bread with hummus. I think the brand of pita bread we buy is called Joseph's or something like that. It is very healthy for you, with few carbs but lots of fiber, and protein. And you got to love good ol' mediterranean style hummus. Sometimes I also eat baby carrots with the hummus, which of course is super healthy, too! |

Reputation: | I was once in a conference about healthy food. No vegetarians or alike, just healthy food, and the expert there said you can't enjoy the healthy food because it is never as good as "the other". If I have to choose... well, I try to make a balance of it, but tend to tasty, salted & oily dishes! |

| Senior Member | Homemade hummus is addictive. You have been warned We use whole wheat pasta and breads most times, although soemtimes we have to eat regular if I'm too lazy to make tortolenni or ravioli. Sauce is normally created and canned in the summer by me using a family recipe. I try to not pay attention to the texture of the wheat pasta and focus in the flavor. Pomegranates and blueberries and any other type of veggie or fruit. I live all summer off smoothies with papaya, mango, etc with ice and soy milk. Then salad from the garden. I make my own PB using the vitamix processor (the same motor that blends soft serve ice cream with candy at Friendly/McDs) with unsalted peanuts. No sugar, no salt, just the peanut. Yummy. Also cheaper cashew or almond butter. The best thing I ever made that was healthy was a tofu and pumpkin stir fry from the eat Right for Your Blood Type book series. It was so goo my dad finished half his plate before he realized it was tofu and asked for meat. Unbelieveably good. |

I'd rather have a smaller piece of something fatty but tasty, than all-I-can-eat of tasteless cardboard.

My personal favorite, good for you, food is fresh fruit. I could almost live on fresh fruit...especially if I could classify just picked corn on the cob as a fruit. Mmmmm....Fresh pineapple is one of my favorite foods on the planet.

Fruit is nature's candy. My parents always served fruit after dinner so now I always think of it as "dessert." It took me a long time to get used to American dinners where they served some sort of cake or pie after dinner! Do sashimi and sushi count? And the pickled ginger that comes with it- mmmm...
