Default Tasty foods that are also good for you (no really!)

We have a lot of wonderful foodies and chefs on Wise Bread. Do you have any suggestions about foods that taste great that are also great for you?

My recommendation is Organics Whole Wheat Linguine. Other whole wheat pasta I've purchased in the past tend to be very tough. I usually feel like I'm chewing tires or something.

But the Organics brand taste basically like regular pasta with just a twinge of extra chewiness. Each serving contains daily recommended value of 2% fat (0% sat or trans), 0% cholesterol, 0% sodium, 20% dietary fiber, 7g of protein, and 12% of iron.

The Organics brand is distributed by Lucerne and can be found at most Vons supermarkets.

Good for you for making the switch to whole grain pasta... I still can't hack the change, so I've been going 1/2 and 1/2 (wheat and white) for a while now. I'm going to gradually add more whole wheat until I'm properly converted!

Wooo.... you should definitely give the Organics brand a try. You can barely taste the whole graininess.

I like these Late July crackers - they are great substitutes for Ritz (though just a tad harder). Actually, they've been gone from my regular grocery store and I've never ordered groceries from Amazon but I may have to start. I have a hard time convincing my kids to eat organic/no-trans-fat crackers but my son loves these.

Oh, and smart balance peanut butter (with Omega 3 no less). My son and I like the chunky kind, which is a bit of a misnomer -- it's really crunchy. I breezed through the Peter Pan recall or JIF or whatever; see it didn't matter b/c I don't buy the standard (transfatty) brand.

I'm a big fan of Weetabix for breakfast, with rasins and honey and a nice cup of tea.

I've become a big fan of Healthy Handfuls after they had me do a review for my other website. I especially like the duck crackers (think goldfish with a lot of really good cheese flavor...) I didn't especially like the chocolate chimpies (really natural tasting.. yech), but strangely my kids dug them. I have enjoyed learning about the organic and whole foods market lately. There really is some good stuff out there. But sadly, alot of it still tastes like crap.

Well, I think my neighbor's kid thought I was trying to poison him with my non-trans-fat peanut butter; how could PB be bad?

I have given up on the whole wheat pasta. I'd rather just eat regular pasta every so often than that junk. It just never gets al dente. I'm a pasta snob, though via the Italian side of my family.

Trader Joe's has these dried & flattened whole bannanas. There are no other additives, they're a little chewier than a dried banana, but they're super sweet. One is more than enough. I saw this woman grabbing piles of them so I had to check them out. (also NOT good for you from there because they're kind of oily--chili lemongrass peanuts--holy crap are they good!)

That sounds delicious Jessica. I wonder whether we could make that ourselves.

I've never heard of Weetabix before in my life. But last night I was watching an old episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Spike (a vampire) just happened to mention that he loves to mix Weetabix in with his blood to give it extra texture. This must be the edible version of the Law of Attraction.

Another recommendation I have is Stonyfield's Organic YoBaby Yogurt. I know Paul tells us that a lot of this organic stuff is a scam, but putting that aside, this yogurt taste just like pudding! Hmmm... I wonder if it goes well with some Weetabix.
