I would have to say "Kids in the Hall" and "the Black Donnelly's" (SP?). The "Kids" was a SNL-esque show but VERY VERY funny. Oh yeah, and "the State" was along the same lines and very funny, too. "the Black Donnelly's" was just on last fall/winter. It was about 4 brothers. I thought it was excellent and was sure that it would take off, but it didn't. I'm sure they have the DVD of the first season somewhere.

Tough question since Hollywood tends to work popular shows to death (ie ER, Law and Order, CSI)

The only shows I can think of are ones that didn't even make a season - Firefly, Wonderfalls. Other than that I think 90% of shows go on too long.

Veronica Mars, Dead Zone and the 4400. The last two just needed proper endings instead of just saying "oh well, fans, glad ya liked it, it's over". Too many shows cancel without a proper goodbye.

have to go with Northern Exposure as someone said. It was one of the best I have ever seen and still miss it. I might get a couple of seasons on DVD...

Yeah I forgot about the Black Donnelly's. It was a show I absolutely made sure I didn't miss. But when it suddenly vanished from the guide, I was sad . What was especially annoying, was how only Americans were allowed to watch the remaining/unaired episodes on the NBC website.

My top three would definitely be Firefly, Veronica Mars and My So Called Life.

Firefly deserved not only another season, but the second half of the first season. And, oh yeah, to be shown in the correct order and promoted reasonably well.

That Veronica Mars got three seasons was pretty amazing. But, having seen what Rob Thomas and company put together for what would have been season four (jump forward a few years to Veronica's first year out of the FBI Academy) and, wow, no question it could have been an amazing show for multiple more years to come.

And, My So Called Life. I'm not surprised it got cancelled after it's first season, given how real and raw the show was. Ahead of its time in a number of ways. It would be interesting to see how it would do today. In a way, we'll sorta get to. Many of the same people who created MSCL are working on a program called Quarterlife. It's running now as a web only series (quarterlife) but will be on NBC later this year (compliments of the writer's stike). It will be interesting to see how it works in hour long blocks rather than the 6-9 minute blocks it runs on the web.

Probe - It was a short-lived TV series written by Isaac Asimov about an eccentric genius who solves high-tech crimes. I loved the show, although I understand that it never got good ratings.

Firefly definitely ended before it should have. Arrested Development should've continued forever. Thank goodness Jason Bateman has a career now, he's hilarious. Daybreak was really good, great use of the "Groundhog's Day" concept.

Ditto on Firefly and Arrested Development. I'm so glad to see that Firefly is continuing in various incarnations, be it movies or comics or whatever.

Also Wonderfalls, which was a great little show. And Earth 2, if anyone remembers that. One of my favorites.
