I don't know if I think it'll be as strong as a recession - maybe we'll be lucky and it'll only be an economic downturn (like that makes it better for people who have to buy necessities, I know, but maybe it'll at least be shorter?)

I am so grateful I've started reading PF sites and trying to slowly inch my way to being more frugal and responsible. It seems like there was probably never a better time to do it.

I think maybe what we are really headed for is people buckling down and getting back to basics and necessities and less buying of huge houses and gas guzzling SUVs and all of that stuff. Everyone is so stapped just trying to cover the "needs" - maybe it is time for society as a whole to start figuring out that we can't get all the "wants" at the same time.

Stop thinking about yourselves for once, and go buy a new car.

I've got a MacBook Pro being Fed-exed to me. I waited until the new products were announced at the MacWorld Conference and Expo and decided I preferred to order the tried and true MBP rather than the new MacBook Air. If those things get any thinner, they'll blow away in some blast of air>> like maybe, when you're cleaning the keyboard with a can of compressed air, your MBA goes flying out the window.

I did that two years ago and it did nothing at all for the housing downturn. Now we'll have to wait until this car gets to 200K miles before my next economic stimulus.

Regardless of what we think, world markets today and Tokyo overnight think we are in trouble. As of this afternoon, Dow futures for tomorrow's open anticipate another 500 point drop. News sites are calling it Black Tuesday before the market has even open.

I'm actually glad to have a heads up via Yahoo Finance so I won't do anything rash such as sell into a panic. For me it's time to review my stock wish list and get ready for the bounce back up. This week looks to be ugly.
