Reputation: | Just finished "Joy Luck Club," by Amy Tan and now I'm on to"Anansi Boys" By Neil Gaiman. JLC was my first Amy Tan book, but I enjoyed it very much and have a list of her books to grab at the library. Anansi Boys is one of several Gaiman books I've read - that dude had better live to be 130 so I don't run out of good stories. :-) Also paging through "I Like You" by Amy Sedaris. Gotta love the Sedaris-es. |

Reputation: | speaking of the post above, i'm reading pride and prejudice also by jane austen sadly though i find it rather boring and hard to get through, at best slightly interesting. i assume that i feel this way because i have to read it for school and it's kind of "chick lit" also i'm reading PARIS IN THE TERROR, by Stanley Loomis. this book is what i'm reading on my own time and i find it much more interesting than P&P, it's about the french revolution and the key players |

Reputation: | Reeve Lindbergh's latest, Forward From Here. Her lovely and gentle writing about her VT farm is nice, but her bout with a brain tumor is girtty and so real. I'm only halfway through, but I picked the book up because later on she talks about discovering - long after her father's death and a few years after her mother's - not one, but three secret families that her father maintained in Europe. I believe she actually goes and meets them all. That whole idea is so reminiscent of Anita Shreve's The Pilot's Wife, and I've wondered several times, if Shreve knew the Lindbergh back story.

Reputation: | The Shipping News, by E. Annie Proulx. Very interesting writing style...somehow forms compound sentences that don't have verbs in them. But still very enjoyable to read. |

Reputation: | Just finished Zakaria's Post American World. Good read if you're into international politics and business. It's like reading a really long Newsweek article. I enjoyed it. Here's a review from Philip: http://www.wisebread.com/book-review...american-world |

Reputation: | Finished the Lindbergh book which I thought was disappointing. Have just finished Amy Bloom's Away (all the good reviews were right on), and am knee-deep into R is for Richochet as mysteries are my mental junk food. I am a read-a-holic and usually finish 3-5 books a week so next up are Elizabeth Strout's Olive Kitteridge and America America by Ethan Canin. MY re-read of the summer will be Lorna Doone as I saw some of the same-named cookies yesterday and they reminded me how much I loved the book. I really, really hope I don't see any madeleines!!

Reputation: | I recently finished rereading Ender's Game. Such a great book. I didn't realize how much I had thought was in Ender's Game that turned out was actually in Ender's Shadow (also good but not as good as Ender's Game). Now I'm reading "The Thief Lord" by Cornelius Funke. It's a YA (young adult) book, but I had heard a lot of good things about it and picked it up on the clearance rack at the used book store. Definitely geared towards the younger crowd, but fun and funny and, at least so far, with a very engaging plot. If it continues this way, I'll add it to the pile of "books to pass of to my nephews when they're old enough to be able to enjoy them". |
