Reputation: | I’m interested in comedies, actions and cartoons for adults. Waste two hours seeing dull movies is really boring. What movies you had seen and wanted to see more? |

Reputation: | For me, the Star Trek: Reboot. I watched it twice in theaters, which is unheard of for me. |

Reputation: | I don't see a lot of movies but I do find that I can evaluate movies fairly well based on reading the synopsis of a couple of reviews from critics I mostly agree with. I also have a few friends who I trust to recommend movies to me. Reading the synopsis of many movies also helps me keep up with what the different movies are about and what's going on in popular culture (which is nice, as I'm a volunteer youth leader and the kids, especially the high schoolers, are very aware of pop culture if not immersed in it). Recently, I enjoyed Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs (not specifically for adults and slightly heavy handed at times, but also a whole lot of light hearted fun). Earlier in the year, I greatly enjoyed Up (Squirrel!). I've enjoyed all of the Pixar movies at least once and this was no (Squirrel!) exception. I rarely rent (or buy) movies, but I will sometimes borrow them from friends. For those, I mostly go on the recommendations of friends I trust and mostly agree with in terms of movie preference. I had heard great things about Man on Fire (even had a pastor who used it in a couple of sermon illustrations). It was good but not great. I am glad that I saw it, as the illustrations make more sense. It's not a fun movie, but it is a thoughtful action film. I've heard that Taken is very good in the action/suspense genre but have not seen it. Serenity is a good action movie with some comedy thrown in. It's better if you've seen the short lived tv show Firefly (of which Serenity is essentially the second season), but it does stand on it's own well. The Spiderman movies are pretty good for balancing action and substance. As long as you're okay with the comic book style that they went for in the special effects, especially the first one. Personally I like it, I find that others haven't. |
